Nvidia GeForce Now Has Surpassed 10 Million Subscribers (thegamer.com)

GeForce Now has officially crossed the ten million members threshold. The news comes during a week of big announcements from Nvidia, which recently held its GTC 21 Keynote, offering a deeper look at the company's performance and plans for the future. News of GeForce Now hitting ten million members was amplified by Piers Harding-Rolls on Twitter, a games industry analyst and the brain behind Ampere Analysis. Harding-Rolls points out that GeForce Now includes a free tier and that actual subscribers only make up a small portion of the overall membership. He also cautioned against comparing GeForce Now to Game Pass, which requires a monthly membership fee and is "largely download focused."

"[It's] worth remembering that Nvidia has a free tier. Actual subscribers (by my estimate) are a minor subset of this LTD member number," Harding-Rolls said. "[GeForce Now] shouldn't really be compared with Game Pass/Game Pass Ultimate which is a content subscription and still largely download focused" Still, hitting that 10 million members mark is a big win for Nvidia – and streaming services in general. As fans struggle to land next-gen consoles, streaming has stepped up as a viable alternative in the interim, giving players access to impressive graphics without a large upfront cost. Some games – such as Cyberpunk 2077 – are arguably better when streamed compared to their console counterparts.

While the market has recently seen an influx of streaming services, it appears GeForce Now is here for the long haul. Nvidia didn't make many other mentions of the service this week, leaving us curious to learn more about its 2021 plans.

I personally expect this subscription service to continue to grow.

I think they're stacking numbers somehow. I don't believe they have 10 million actually using it.

Yep. I’m even thinking about it myself. I have a Shield TV that I use for Kodi and streaming. I wish I would have jumped on the founders deal now. I didn’t expect to be waiting this long for a GPU.

It also depends on if your ISP has data caps to be aware of.

They do but I pay $30 to get rid of it. There are 3, sometimes 4, of us in the house and we all like to stream in addition to my gaming.

Game streaming services always fail because the people who need them mostly have crappy internet.

I have used it before. It’s not a bad experience but the input lag is an unavoidable and annoying problem which is why I didn’t subscribe in the first place.

Agreed. I think what would be more interesting is if they told us the amount of people that have uninstalled it.

There is a ton of truth to this. Actually, it might be cheaper to build a gaming desktop from scratch (not at 2021 scalper GPU prices--I'm talking MSRP) than to pay to upgrade my internet to a speed that would let me enjoy GeForce Now.

Maybe they count registered users? Or they're big in some foreign countries?

I wonder how GFN is doing so much better than Stadia. Is it the better games or just better latency? I am considering the service since my EVGA 980 is struggling with games like Civilization 5 and Beyond All Reason.

Iirc geforce now was actually recommended as the "best feeling" cloud gaming service in one of the latest LTT vids. Can't say I'd ever want to consider it, though the technical theory behind it is quite interesting in itself

Until graphical quality, texture quality, audio quality and input lag are identical it's a waste of time to me. I don't see that happening soon even with the best internet.

They gave it way for free with people who bought 3080s and 3090s, which really doesnt make sense to me. Why stream a game when you can run it natively without delay? It woul've made more sense if they gave it to the lower end GPUs.

I got a year trial with my 3080. Used it on my laptop and it was a disappointing experience. Played Tomb Raider on Geforce Now and played it natively on my laptop which has a 1660ti. On Geforce Now the resolution was very low and there was some lag. Not my cup of tea.

Well considering in other parts of the world including the US its hard as hell to get a GPU, this is many peoples only option... If I ever have to consider this I am done with PC gaming and PC's.

have tested geforce now several times and found it not bad at all, my biggest problem with it so far was the resolution and now and then the input was. It just doesn't look nice on 1440p monitors.
