Losing my mind over this. This is still better than when I thought the card was totally dead, but now that I know it's not, I'm back to dealing with this stupid fan problem.
The gist is that the fans on the gpu only seem to want to spin to self test on bootup, or when it's overheated. Nothing under load except some twitching every 5-10 seconds, like it's trying to move but doesn't have enough power to get to the next magnet on the motor. If I spin it with my finger, it'll start spinning, but pretty slowly. Weird. I'm pretty sure it's not PSU related, 750w and 80+ gold. Plus I used it with a crappy Raidmax for a while with no problems. Those were dark times. We do not speak of them.
I'm frustrated that I don't have that much information to provide, but my specs are as follows:
CPU: 2200G/3700X - Believe I had the 2200G when the problem started, upgraded to the 3700x and still had the same issue. Currently back on the 2200G as I was using the integrated graphics to get around not having a GPU.
GPU: GTX 660 SIG2 SC, part # 02G-P4-2661-KR, GRD 491.92
PSU: Thermaltake GF1 750W
Mobo: Asus Prime B450 A/CSM
RAM: 16GB
OS: Windows 10,
Things I've tried are as follows:
Custom fan settings with both Precision X1 and Afterburner in an attempt to make fans spin up constantly
Uninstalling both Precision X1 and Afterburner to see if they were screwing with something
Uninstalling Asus Armory Crate(The culprit of the GPU related crashes, thought it might also bring the fans back)
Looked through the list of all the programs on my computer to see if anything could be messing up the fan curve in any way whatsoever
Checked fans/bearings, nothing blocked, spins as smoothly as the day I got it
Changing PCI-E power cables
DDU+updated drivers
Potentially other things, but I've been dealing with this since last year. I'll update if I remember anything else.
The thing came out in 2012, I don't really have high hopes of EVGA coming to the rescue in any way. I tried e-mailing support asking for a BIOS file to see if that would help(plus, apparently I have the revision without proper UEFI support, so that would have been nice), but 4 months later I'm still waiting on a reply.
I really want to get this thing working properly, I bought it new at Fry's in 2014, and I've never had the extra funds to upgrade it. I scraped together just enough for a 3060 Ti at MSRP, and then.. discovered how that all worked out. I'd been trying to get together the money since it was announced, so I hadn't really been paying attention. Basically, the 660 is my only option right now, I wouldn't buy from a scalper even if I could. Fingers crossed that someone can help me out here.
Edit: Giving EVGA support another try. Might aswell.
