Hello all,

I've recently purchased a new monitor capable of HDR and 144hz, which appears to require DP 1.4.  My EVGA 980ti has DP 1.2, and the NVIDIA firmware update tool does not seem to have enabled DP1.4, despite claiming that the firmware update was successful.

Is there an update from EVGA, or any other way to enable DP 1.4 on this card?

Need more information here. Why do you believe DP 1.4 was not enabled?

    1)  I'm using an LG 38WN95C-W monitor, which supports 144hz over Displayport:    https://i.imgur.com/vp3lEpZ.png
    2)  However, it only shows a maximum of 120hz while using the Displayport input:  https://i.imgur.com/LbKmPiu.png
It also shows that the color space is SDR, and HDR cannot be enabled.
    3)  The monitor itself is set to use Displayport 1.4 in the settings (OSD, can't screenshot that): https://i.imgur.com/Hluh9tb.jpg
    4)  The NVIDIA control panel also shows a maximum of 120hz:  https://i.imgur.com/Vqenns7.png
    5)  The NVIDIA Firmware Updater shows that it has already updated the firmware (this is after running it once):  https://i.imgur.com/Cfwd9uR.png
I've installed the most recent graphics driver, and the most recent monitor driver.

If I've missed something in the configuration please let me know.  I'm happy to provide any other details that'd be helpful as well.

Bandwidth. I suspected this.  It certainly will do 144hz but NOT at full 4:4:4 RGB. HDR also requires MORE bandwidth.

    First column is DP 1.4

Please review the info I submitted, (https://i.imgur.com/LbKmPiu.png).  You'll see that it's running at 8 bit, 4:2:2, 120hz, with no option for 144hz.  I don't even get an option for 4:4:4 in the NVIDIA control panel until I set the refresh rate to 60hz.  I also have no option to enable Full Dynamic Range (rather than Limited) as your image suggests should be possible at 10 bit / 120hz, or even at 8 bit / 120hz.

Edit:  One further piece of information.  On a whim, I tested the same GPU and monitor with the HDMI cable.  It immediately configured itself for 75hz with HDR enabled.  I tested it in a game and got the "HDR" popup on the screen, and the effect (though not great due to most monitors being pretty bad at it) was definitely noticeable.  So... if it can do 75hz HDR over HDMI, shouldn't it be capable of 60hz HDR over DP 1.4?

Because the standard does not support it. Please review the information I submitted.

Did you use GPU-Z to verify your GPU is running the BIOS version you flashed?

Be aware that 4:4:4 RGB + HDR using 3840x1600 @144Hz is on the edge of even the Displayport 1.4 rating. People in there forums using 3840x1440p HDR+10bpc have been unable to run at 144hz, and you are attempting an even higher resolution.

Please see https://k.kramerav.com/support/bwcalculator.asp and keep in mind HDR increases the bandwidth requirements above their calculated results.

You can compare your result against https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayPort#Resolution_and_refresh_frequency_limits

The DP firmware doesn't change the BIOS version. The only measure of success is the flashing utility which says either 'you don't need this'  if your GPU is already updated or 'success' upon completion if not.

144 Hz is possible with custom resolution - 8 bit only ... I understand so far only HDMI Port is managing HDR ...
