So I got my card couple weeks ago and installed it last night in my system. Ran Cyberpunk, Assetto Corza Competizione at high settings. The card was not very hot (GPU hot spot temperature was about 60-65 max, fan 65%). Suddenly the system stopped while running the game. I removed the GPU (slight smell coming from bottom left of the card). Restarted the system again and it runs minus the gpu. Here are the system specs. Any idea what could have damaged the card?

Cpu: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 with be Quiet Pure cooler
Motherboard: ASROCK B450-M
Ram: HyperX Fury 8GB 3200mhz
SSD: NVMe Sabrent 256GB internal
PSU: Thermaltek 500w 80+ gold no modular (I connected the EVGA card with a split single strand  2+6 PCI-E connector

Just started the RMA. Still wondering what could be the reason? Is the 500w not enough for that card? Should I have used 2 separate 2+6 PCI-E connectors instead of a split connector?

According to the specs for the evga 3060 ti lineup, they recommend 600 watt minimum. It could be that the card ran the psu to the point that it was losing efficiency and caused some dirty power to the card. But ideally if the card has two pci-e power ports, you want two dedicated pci-e power connectors. It's not a great idea to split them especially on an underrated psu.

CPU: I7 7820x @ 4.7ghz
Mobo: Gigabyte Gaming 7 Pro x299
Mem: Corsair Vengeance LP 3000mhz
PSU: EVGA 850 Supernova G3
GPU: FE Nvidia RTX 3090
Case: Corsair 5000d Airflow
CPU Cooler: EKWB AIO 360 Elite

One you are overstressing the PSU in terms of wattage/amps, especially since you ran one PCIE power cable to the GPU. Many people will argue with me on power needs. But what makes a PSU have a long life? Not break down? Not maybe fry your hardware? Going 100-200w past what nvidia or even AMD suggest as the minimum recommended PSU so it never touches or rubs butts its efficiency, make sure it has quality components inside.  I have seen a lot of hardware pretty much cooked over the years as people claim PSU calculator said its ok. Yeah get on with that nonsense, better safe than sorry. Because being sorry because you went with a cheaper option on a psu will cost you more time and money in the end. Not lecturing you, I just know some people on these forums are dead set on what PSU calculators say, and how much power you pull from the wall, and honestly steer some people down the wrong path with their ideology.
