I've been using this card for about 4 years now, not one issue. However, recently something is causing problems while gaming. The card is stuttering a lot, and hanging randomly in games, with it happening more frequently in more demanding games. There is also a buzz coming from the card while this happens. When not playing a 3D game, its completely silent. I've changed no settings on the card in afterburner. The card is still usable, but its annoying to deal with the stuttering and hanging.
Now before anyone says it, no, its not coil wine. It doesn't matter the fan speed, the noise is consistent. Also tried the card in two other machines, it does the same thing, so its not my power supply. Does anyone know what it might be? Can it be repaired? I would like to fix this before the card breaks beyond repair

Sounds like coil whine, but coil whine definitely isn’t the cause of the stutter. Stuttering could be caused by a faulty ssd, game updates, or overheating hardware that is throttling clocks up and down due to overheat. If you’re playing on the internet stuttering can also occur because of a poor internet connection.

that is exactly the definition of having coil whine - buzzing when under stress of demanding gaming /or software usage. Your stuttering & hanging could be 10x different things. ; -The latest windows 10 update specifically mentioned trying to fix stuttering people were reporting. -Numerous Nvidia drivers over past couple months have people reporting stuttering ,etc... all with different setups. - ..and if you are saying that games out now is making the card stutter more than ones from 4 years ago. ? That is to be expected as the games get more & more demanding .... - etc...etc... etc. You should list your entire system specs & what games/ programs you are using for anyone to try to help you anymore than this.

I understand now about the coil whine, I guess I just never noticed it until I had the door off, while I was checking the system while it was running for maintenance. When I heard it, I thought it was something on the board frying, but there is no smell, and the sound varies with the load, so that's at least a relief that the card is probably ok physically.
As for the stuttering, still not sure what is causing it, as I said, I tested in different rigs, and it stuttered in those games too. Some of the games with issues was Aven Colony, Planet Coaster, Stellaris, Yonder, with No Mans Sky being the worst offender (I know its probably the game though, since it was never smooth from the beginning, but is worse now)
However, while benchmarking in Heaven, it is VERY noticeable. It will be running smoothly most of the time at 200fps+ then just occasionally drop to zero or in the low hundreds throughout the test for brief moments.
If this is normal for an aging card, I can accept that, I've been using it for 5 years now. I was just worried it was on the verge of breaking completely when I heard the noise while benchmarking to check temps and stuff. I need this card to work until I can get a new one without having to spend 1k$
Temps are fine, the card never got above 60c at any time, and the cpu was at 50c. My specs are: Windows 8.1 i5 6600 16gbs DDR4 (stock speed) MSI motherboard (don't remember the model) 128gb Scandisk SSD (boot drive) 1tb WD Blue HDD EVGA G3 550W psu

Also, an older non H/T quad core is going to suffer in newer titles (especially in max FPS) along with 16GB of memory.

I forgot one other offender to check is that auto-recording Game DVR feature that Microsoft likes to sneak back on when they do updates.... make sure the Game DVR recording is turned OFF .
