So in 6 months or so will there be a z590 version with a LGA1700 socket to go with Intel's new processor or will it be something else as I think I'll wait for the Alder Lake S processor. Im liking the additional cores and the re-tuned scheduler setup for performance, also DDR5 RAM would be nice.
Intel's 12th-Gen Alder Lake At a Glance
  • Qualification and production in the second half of 2021
  • Hybrid x86 design with a mix of big and small cores (Golden Cove/Gracemont)
  • 10nm Enhanced SuperFin process
  • LGA1700 socket requires new motherboards
  • PCIe 5.0 and DDR5 support rumored
  • Four variants: -S for desktop PCs, -P for mobile, -M for low-power devices, -L Atom replacement, -N educational (probably Chromebooks)
  • Gen12 Xe integrated graphics
  • New hardware-guided operating system scheduler tuned for high performance

No, that'd just confuse everyone and people would end up with incompatible products. Socket 1700 will get its own 600-series chipset when it launches. Which is probably 2022, only the mobile Alder Lake parts are confirmed for 2021 so far.

Ya your probably right, a z595 would be a bit confusing. Also didn't realize the Alder Lake S Desktop Processor wasn't slated for 2021. This defiantly puts a cramp in the upgrade plans...

    Thanks for the information.

Rumors claim it is, but they're just rumors. It would be unusual to have two launches in the same year, and so far Intel has only confirmed Alder Lake for mobile around August.

They're not just rumors, the plans are for a mobile launch in 2H/21 and desktop launch in 1H/22 right now.

    You're joking right?

It's Intel.  Of course there won't be LGA 1700 on an existing chipset.  They have to release a new chipset for every CPU type because MONIEZ.

Both AMD & Intel users are pretty much at a darned if we do darned if we don't point right now, if you can even get a chip, AM4 is a dead socket, the next Mainstream Desktop CPU line AMD releases will be on a new socket.  If you want to go Intel, you're basically buying an re-re-re-re-re-re-re-reoptimized 7700K 14nm++++++++++++++++++++++++ LGA 1155-turned-1151-turned-1200 socket dead end no upgrade path 11th Gen CPU that will probably actually get stomped by the LGA 1700 stuff when it comes out.

The next mainstream release from each CPU maker is going to be very interesting to see who comes out on top, that's for sure... right now, you're basically choosing either a crapoli option in Intel's latest rehash, or a pretty great end to what has been a solid socket on the AMD side.

What Dabadger84 said. Intel makes a new chipset every time one of the engineers takes a bathroom break.
