I'm looking forward to a new build, with what I hope will be the EVGA z590 dark, in the next month or so.  I already have most of the hardware for my new system, and am basically waiting on the motherboard and CPU at this point.

I was originally going to go with the i9-11900k, but it seems to be basically the same chip as the i7-11700k, just binned better...
In the end I don't mind paying the extra money, even though it kind of sounds dumb compared to previous generation differences of i9 vs i7.
I am looking to do some overclocking with a custom loop; that has me slightly leaning towards the i9 as I'd likely see better performance there.

The other factor I'm thinking of is availability based off of supply/demand.
I'm guessing that people will see the i9 as a waste of money because of the same specs minus the clock speeds.
As such it might turn out that this time around the i7's that sell out first, before the i9s.
However, there may be a larger supply of i7's on release.  I've been able to buy my CPU's on release day in the past; this time around has me worried with all of the shortages and extreme demand.
AMD will also play into this release as they've been able to provide a very strong showing recently, gaining new customers with Zen.

Curious to see your thoughts on the upcoming release as well.

Glad to see (from what I've read) that the Rocket Lake will support PCIe 4.0 but would really like to see Intel come off the 14nm process.
You mention AMD's strong showing, the price per core vs per MHz makes me lean toward AMD. And I don't say that lightly as a longtime Intel user, in fact, I'm still on the X99 platform

I'm more or less in the same boat. I built my PC a few months ago and went cheap on the CPU (10400) since I intended on getting one of these. It will honestly come down to price for me, probably. I would love to know that just once, I would have a flagship processor, albeit less cored and threaded than the prior, but if the difference isn't that much between the 700k and the 900k, I'll more than likely end up going for that. Unless, of course, the 900k isn't all that much more expensive. I highly doubt it will be $600 as that one website listed. It also lists the 10900k at $610.99, which you don't really see in those damning, sensationalist headlines. The next couple of weeks will be very interesting!

Based on the leaks and pre-embargo review from Anandtech, the performance of 11th gen Rocket Lake is quite dire. And this is coming from someone who was anticipating 11th gen.

What CPU are you on now? I find it funny that 10th gen CPUs have come down so hard in price. Once the reviews start coming out for RKL, I wouldn't be surprised if prices actually started INCREASING again...

Yeah, TBH, after looking through ANANDTech's review I'm a bit put off... I will likely still do the build as I have a budget for it, and may end up upgrading again for 10nm when it comes out. Wanting to get that pcie4 going...

10nm is supposed to bring DDR5, but I likely won't upgrade to that unless there's some big performance gains.

    Currently on 9900k.

You might find it funny, but I changed my mind... The only thing holding me to z590 was the EVGA Dark and I decided it wasn't worth it.

    I now have a x570 and a 5800x arriving by tomorrow, lol.

Hopefully I can get an EVGA Dark on 10nm Intel or something else in the future...

Leaning to save a little money on z490. Just wish evga boards were in stock and that discount price.

Now some are claiming pre-embargo tests were inaccurate:

I saw some claim as well that bios updates improved RAM latency significantly. I still am not holding out much hope for 11th gen processors, but maybe it's not a complete dumpster fire.

Ian used a BIOS revision even newer than the BIOS version he was given at the time of receiving his earlier NDA samples. So don't expect much from newer BIOS revisions.

True, there is only so much a BIOS can do to fix a flawed chip

Zero reason to buy the 4/590 platform right now. AMD still beats it in every appreciable benchmark; price and availability not withstanding.

Anand runs CPUs at stock so the 10700k all core is clocked 4.7GHz which is lower than the 9900KS which is always 5GHz so it's gonna be faster in a lot of things just on that alone lol not to mention the hardware mitigations which slow down 10th gen.
