Almost 3 years ago, I bought an EVGA GTX 980 FTW. A few days after, I started to notice that after doing something graphically intensive, like playing games, my monitor would randomly turn black. Turning down the clock speed made it happen less often. I was thinking of doing an RMA, but I bought this card sealed from a seller on Ebay and the warranty was non-transferable. Just recently, I found out that this wasn't an isolated occurrence and that many people have had problem with this same model. Is there something I could do or am I out of luck?

Does the issue occur on all the outputs on the card?

Yes, it happens both on mini displayport and hdmi. When I search "gtx 980 FTW black screen" on google, I see I'm not the only one, so I assume the cable is not to blame.

Open the nvidia control panel and set power management mode to prefer max performance. Reboot pc. Test for the issue.

It will still show a black screen after a while.

Install a older graphics driver that gives you the option to use adaptive as a power management option. See if the older drivers work better for you.

I've tried using various driver versions, but the same thing happens.

Test the card in another system to see if the issue will follow it to a different rig.
