I am getting an upgrade itch.  Should I go from a 9700 to 9900 cpu or just go from a 390 to 490?

I have a 9900KS in its box just sitting innthe closet, was going to try and sell it on Craigslist or ebay. I upgraded to a z490 dark and 10900k. The z590 and 11900k will be coming out in march and offers a nice ipc improvement and pcie 4.0. You could always just sell the 9700k and get a 9900k and then wait for intel Alder Lake, which is suppose to come at the end of the year and offer 16 core mainstream.

Im skipping rocket Lake since it maxes at 8 cores. Can't go from a 10 down to a 8 core.

That's sad. I personally opted for the 9900kf. Lost lottery on the first but that one is under warranty replacement right now. So I'll have a brand new one. But rather than waiting, I went and got another 9900kf and it seems to be pretty good. Now to figure out what to do with that other kf 😂 I opted for the kf because it theoretically OCs better than the k, which makes sense, theoretically. Pricing was better too though, as of now anyway. Have you considered the kf?

I had 2 K and 1 KF and they both were crap, but my KS is a great sample. I feel bad its just sitting in the ckoset not being used.

That is indeed a shame. Maybe I should consider a KS, I will likely stay on this platform until 12th gen. I have a nice water-cooling setup and my dark wants to push my chip to the limits. Curious about the value on that KS anyway. dm?

I am getting an upgrade itch.  Should I go from a 9700 to 9900 cpu or just go from a 390 to 490?

Z590 with a 11900K is looking really nice.  16x + 4X CPU direct 4.0 pcie lanes.  VERY fast single core performance and very good fast memory support.

...and poor reviews for the 11900K.

It's 20% faster than a 9900K.  What did you expect?
