EVGA support,

I want to bring this quality control issue to your attention.

I noticed that my high-end DH Labs GlassMaster and Sysconcept 1300 core toslink cable(s) had difficulty locking in place when inserted in the toslink transmitter housing. Both cables would wiggle out at the slightest touch and this resulted in 40-60% of the fibre cores not lighting up properly.

Upon investigation, I came to realize the toslink transmitter used on the original Nu Audio card is a very cheaply manufactured unit.
To correct this problem I had to unsolder the OEM transmitter and replace it with a high quality one that locks the cable correctly.

Upon further investigation, I noticed the transmitter housing wasn't even cut out properly and leftover plastic is partially blocking the LED transmitter inside the housing.

On the Nu Audio Pro card I have not come across these poor quality toslink transmitters, however I want to expose this problem in case anyone else may have noticed their toslink cables do not lock into place properly.

Oh yeah, I spent about $7.xx CAD on a new toslink transmitter and it would be nice if EVGA refunded me ;)
It would cost a lot more $$ and time on opening an RMA ticket and shipping back and forth.

Have a good day!

With an expensive sound card, you shouldn't be using the optical out in the first place. The analog circuitry you aren't using is what you spent a bunch of money on.

@ty_ger07, toslink is a feature of the cards. Customers should be able to use whatever supported feature they wish.
A123A, I'd suggest contacting EVGA support here. :)

BLESS your heart for telling people which port they should be using.

Which brand/model replacement transmitter did you finally use? I have a similar problem with the TOSLINK transmitter on NU Audio.

Thanks! It turns out tough to get the Aixin DLT types in the UK, but we have a similar CLIFF FCR684208T (for those around here). Tried to look up a Toshiba but got lost in their catalogue ...

More like telling people which sound card they should be buying.  Don't buy this sound card for optical out.  I think you could agree.
For optical out, there are other options for $200 cheaper which will sound identical (guaranteed by the fact that they use unaltered, bit-perfect, corrected, digital audio).

By altering your sound card, you have voided its warranty.  EVGA would rather spend $0 by doing nothing.

Out of curiosity, what do you think about jitter?
Or about playing a 192kHz FLAC on a 96kHz card?

Unfortunately, Ty_ger07 is correct. If you altered the Nu Audio card by changing the TOSlink and soldering it to the board, you have modified the card and voided the warranty. As such, we are unable to assist with any warranty or repair options. For any other users that would like to keep their warranty, I'd suggest reaching out to support@evga.com so we can assist you with an RMA if you run into issues. Sorry for the inconvenience!
