Jedi Fallen Order: How on Earth do you escape the underground jail?

So after 15 minutes of trying to escape I give up and look at the walkthrough in the video below.  Am I right in assuming you have to use force push and pull here?   How do you perform a force pull on the PC?   I'm aiming at the panel holding down force pull and nothing happens, am I meant to do something else while he's in the middle of holding force pull?   I feel like I'm bugged, I can't move any objects in the jail cell like he does at 0:04,  when I target it and use force pull it just shimmers in place like it's in Flash time or something:

    It's been a while since I played it but I recall I also got stuck there, unfortunately I don't remember exactly what I was doing wrong but it was a 'doh' moment once I realised.
