I just bought this water block, it just caught my attention that you did not use thermal pads in the LR22, have you had no problem for it?

wow did you use the thermal pads that came with the kit or did you use others?

UPDATE:

After a couple weeks my VRAM temps started creeping back up, Topping out at 88C. The 1.0mm Odyssey pads didnt make great contact, so I 'm going to swap them to 1.5mm and hopefully the temps dont start creeping up again.

The backplate had decent contact but the prints on the pads looked like more thickness could help even more, so I'm also going to swap them out from 1.5mm to 2.0mm Aiyunni pads.

UPDATE #2:

Pad swaps complete and everything back together and leak tested. Those 2.0mm pads for the backplate were too thick, couldnt even get all the screws in lol. But the 1.5mm Odyssey pads on the VRAM now are working good so far, but time will tell if they were thick enough. If you dont hear from me that's probably a good thing but I'll try to update in a month if I don't forget

Measured the stock pads with a micrometer and they're about 1.8mm. Using those pads the memory temps were good, but wasn't as cool as others 3080s under water. After seeing people say stuff like:

1.) Memclocks can be taken further with more cooling
2.) Someone got better results with 1.0mm pads on the VRAM (***UPDATE: IF USING EXTREME ODYSSEY PADS 1.0MM IS TOO THIN!)
3.) Bykski pads are garbage
 
I ended up getting:
 
-85x45x1.0mm Thermalright Extreme Odyssey 12.8 w/mk pad to go directly on VRAM (***UPDATE: IF USING EXTREME ODYSSEY PADS 1.0MM IS TOO THIN!)
-100x100x1.5mm Aiyunni 6 w/mk padding for the rest
(Didn't do full Odyssey because of price, and seems like overkill anyways.)
 
Results:
GPU-Z memory temperature dropped by 20c, but not sure if these were the best pad sizes:
 
-For the backplate, 3.0mm pads were way too thick, so I ended up using 1.5mm. The backplate gets warm to the touch so it's working, but if Bykski included ~1.8mm pads for 3090 and we don't have rear memory, seems like 2-2.5mm could be better.
 
-The VRAM 1.0mm Odyssey pads don't look squished at all. I read these don't compress much and obviously there's good contact but I'll check for indents next time the cards out.
 
-The 1.5mm Aiyunni pads on the rest of the stuff are slightly squeezed, not as dramatic as the Bykski pads were. Seems like this is the right size.

sounds good. i might change mine when i do a cleaning or something. good to know it lowered mem temps. i took off my undervolt because it caused too much crashing, not that it was alot but every once ina  while a game would crash. even up'ed the voltage to compensate.

I need to source up some new pads and what not. Have you or anyone else tried the Digikey thermal putty over trying to get the correct thickness pads? 

Just put my Bykski block on, core and mem temps are pretty good all round (Core is real nice actually, even under a 400w OC'ed load it holds at about 48-50 Degree's) but mem junc temp is equal to slight worse under crypto conditions than air (Not sure how the ICX temps can be so low but the junc temp is so high...).
Only using the junk Bykski blue pads that came with the block, so definitely will need to change them out. They're also too thick in general imo for the VRM's (seem to "hold" my block up off the PCB, core temps are still good so must be a little bending going on there) and definitely too thick for the backplate, barely screw it down (visual warp in it from the over height pads)

Might source up some thermalright pads for the memory and the rear (though my backplate is physically hot to the touch so its definitely working now! Maybe an active cooler would be good for crypto heat) and putty for the VRM's (and might do the chokes too anyway)

Anyway visually, the block is stunning. The frosted sections look really nice (especially the ends of the block), i really like it. Just wish it didn't have that "leaky bubbly" look right in the center of the block (where the inserts butt up to the plexi top but are inside the o-ring, oh well, it was $150 cheaper than an EK and just as good, cant complain)

So to clarify..
 
Use: 1.5mm, 12.8 w/mk for the vram.
Use: 1.5mm, 6 w/mk for everything else.
Use: 1.5mm, 6 w/mk for the back plate.
 
What is your max memory junction temp that you have seen?

Just got my Odyssey pads, i picked up 1mm, 1.5mm and a assorted pack (.5>2mm) of 6w/mk pads to use on the rear and other non essential components.

Current byski pads are cooking my vram (at a toast 92degrees when crypto'ing, as opposed to 88 under the original fan), other mines have theirs sitting in the 70's so fingers crossed good pads, and not the bykski junk, will pull those temps down!

Also, anyone put pads over the rear of the GPU? I see the EK block has them over the caps on the back of the GPU section its self, aswell as around the memory spots (on the pcb). Might drop a square on there if i've got a bit left over, cant hurt right?

Alrighty! Great news.

Just fitted 1.5mm Odyessy pads to my Memory and 1.5mm 6w/mk pads to the VRM's aswell as 1.5 6w/mk's to the backplate (i doubled stacked it over the back of the GPU area as the backplate has a cutout in it).

Right now, been "crypto"ing on the 3080 for 1/2hr, with a water temp of 24 Degree's my Memory junction hasn't past 60 Degree's! (bouncing between 58/60). Thats a major decrease over the Bykski pads (that are 1.7/1.8mm) where instantly under mining memory would jump into the 80's then max out at 92 degree's (on air i ran 88 degree's so it was actually worse than air....), so yeah 30 degree drop for me!


everything was easier to fit together and tighter too, so definitely worth the change. Will see how things go over time, i noticed the Bykski junc left a lot of a siliconey type residue on everything from all the heat too

There is one video of the 3080 + Bykski combo by "Amirul AA" (Channel name because i cant post links yet) but he uses the exact pad layout as on the manual. Just curious about this comment:
 
kikkoman123There are two MOSFETs diagonally left and right above of the GPU core. Those needs to be padded too.
