Your problems will be solved! Watercool, the great saviour, announces the release of blocks for FTW 3! With Nylons spacers no risk of short circuiting the PCB.
There are currently no problems with Watercool XC3 blocks on EVGA XC3 RTX 3000 cards, as with Alphacool FTW3 blocks.

i wish i had found this thread earlier, i am having a weird issue with my 3090 ftw3 ultra gaming. Got the ekwb vector front and active backplate. Got my loop up and running yesterday powerd up and none of the displayports work on the card, hdmi is fine. I do have thew card vertically mounted so i wondering if maybe it is the riser cable. Played only a couple games on it and they all have ran fine. Apart from the displayports not working everything is else is good no bsod's or anything. I figured if i mesed something up then the card just wouldnt operate, but with the hdmi working like it should i am kind of stumped as to what my issue is. Any suggestions?

Did they ever RMA your card?

What ended up happening with your RMA?

I just had the problem occur with my 3090ftw3 on the EKWB Vector block. I've had the card for a year now, and on a waterblock for 6 months. A few days ago my monitor turned green while in windows. Was able to boot back into Windows with the IGPU on my 10900k and install the Jan 14, 2022 drivers for the 3090. All worked perfectly after that for about 48 hours. Then, yesterday, I was just sitting in windows and walked away, when I came back there was no POST and the Asus (Rog Strix z490-e) q-code 97 "Console output device connected." Mobo is stuck at VGA boot sequence. Would love to know if I should RMA or try some solutions as this sounds like a dead card to me. Tried re-seating the card, and the riser cable it's on (Phanteks riser / vertical mount) as much as I could without having to drain my loop. I am still able to boot into windows on the Intel graphics but that's it.

I had the same problem FTW3 Vector bricking my 3090. My block was Rev. 1, ordered in May, 1 month before they fixed the standoff issue. I'm still waiting for EVGAs support ticket follow-up. I really hope they send me a replacement. This sounds like EVGA sent EK the wrong specs.

EVGA responded to my RMA request and within 2 weeks they've already shipped my new card. What was the standoff issue so it doesn't happen to me again? I hope they get your replacement as well.

The newest revision EK waterblocks for the 3090 has fixed the issue. The first 3090 waterblock ones had the standoff issue and I had the first version but
didn't have issues when I had it installed in January 2021.

EK emailed me and said they never made a new wb but will send me the standoffs and make me do it myself... I think I'm going to use a different brand, any recommendations??
If and when EVGA sends me a new card, I'm going to aircool it until I get a reliable block. And I thought Bykski sucked! Their block actually worked. I threw that out, they didn't even have VRMs cooled, I had to doublestack my already thick pads.

It's literally 3 tiny standoffs & takes all of 3 minutes to swap all of them out. Just unthread & rethread; no reason to throw away all the material/machining/etc for such a simple fix

Their mistake just broke my $2000 card, and you're going to lecture me about a simple fix. I'm going with a new company. Not going to risk going for a 2nd RMA because EK dropped the ball.

Ok. I bought my block in August of 2021 so I should be fine then.

Re: RTX 3090 EVGA FTW 3 - Ekwb Waterblock install - Not booting 2022/02/05 21:21:29 (permalink)
I bought the EKWB Vector 3090 RTX FTW 3 Ultra waterblock way back on Jan 22, 2021, so that would make mine version 1.
Out of the box I had a broken plexi top; so EKWB sent a new PlexiTop, but that didn't change the standoffs on the heatsink portion. In the meantime I had ordered the active backplate as well.

Card was working with the air cooling factory heatsink assembly. Installed the EKWB front and back active plates. Result: NO POST. 1 long beep, followed by 3 short beeps, indicates graphics card failure.

Now in RMA mode, so will ship it back in due course.

The EKWB 2080 Ti still works, so the rest of the computer is still useful!

PITA so now I will have to contact EKWB to get the corrected standoffs!

WISH I HAD READ THIS THREAD beforehand!!!  ARGHH!!!

Hold my beer; while I reinstall everything from scratch using my EKWB screwdriver which does not exceed 0.60 N-m;
and joyfully pay for shipping so I can "Hurry up and WAIT!"

Oh and to think that I recently passed up getting the KINGPIN edition 3090...and I would have avoided this mini disaster.

Cheers with a big 1 Liter STEIN

Hans

Just an update. EVGA replaced my card, minus shipping and 45$ pad replacement service. Whatever the defect was, it wasn't shorted from the EK block, but it could have still broke the card I suppose. I went with Alphacool this time. Will lyk if it works...lol. i can't believe Bykski is the only brand of blocks to work on my 3090 so far

Wonder how many of these failures that are directed towards EK Block should be directed towards Evga FTW3 Red Light District...power delivery problem.
I had an EK Block on my 3080Ti FTW3 for 3 months....when it went pop n poof I know it had nothing at all to do with Block....blown fuse = power delivery issue...the symptoms leading up to it were a few Post Code 55 no video display...then "pop n poof n red light"......my RMA Card has working fine with same EK WB....besides when I took the Waterblock off the defective Card there was no sign at all of anything out of the norm....I have installed EK Blocks and Re-installed stock air coolers many many times going back to 780Ti series.....

Re: RTX 3090 EVGA FTW 3 - Ekwb Waterblock install - Not booting 2022/02/12 09:52:59 (permalink)
Just to update from my post #854

My diagnostics were pretty simple:

NO POST. 1 long beep, followed by 3 short beeps, indicates graphics card failure.

I was charged $45.00 USD for "Damage" which EVGA defines as lack of thermal pads; to which I responded:

Firstly, lack of thermal paste/pads is not DAMAGE per se’, but merely a technical issue.
Secondly, after installing the EKWB waterblock, the thermal pads were not “reuseable”, to return them to factory condition.
Given the forum discussion EVGA hasn’t been too forthcoming on the availability and or source of the thermal pads.
Thirdly, where and if I wanted to, would I source the “factory thermal pads”, and from whom are they available in the future?

Nonetheless, EVGA approved my RMA and issued new serial number. Item still in shipment so haven't received it yet.
In the meantime, EKWB said they are issuing new mounting posts and tool to install them. So we'll see what happens when that all arrives.

Cheers

Re: RTX 3090 EVGA FTW 3 - Ekwb Waterblock install - Not booting 2022/03/10 08:02:57 (permalink)
I recently had the same issue.  Card was fine on stock cooler but threw the red middle power light at the PCI plug.  Block was revision 2 with the smaller standoffs.  I'm suspecting the backplate as even though I followed all instructions slowly and carefully.  Still seemed like the center pad area behind the GPU didn't make any contact with back of PCB.  I feel the thermal pads aren't a necessarily the correct size for this application, or the instructions for backplate were a reused instruction instead of making a new set.  I heard a pop come from the card so am certain something shorted.  I have my retailer in contact with EKWB, however they felt I should have sent them my card instead of EVGA.  Not sure I want to risk a second install.

Just as I am about to start planning to upgrade a second PC we got at our home with another 3090, and getting 2x EKWB active front, and back to get the max out of the 3090 I read this thread...

What is wrong with EVGA? Why this many issues with a single SKU and it's been what now? Over a year and they can't get it sorted. Seems like GPUs still dying, and EKWB having issues with them but not any other card!

After about 8 months of use now, I have to say the EK block I have has performed the worst in the terms of contamination and wear.  I ran three cards on the same system, using EK Cryo fluid only.  Two of the cards I recently stripped down and redid.  The EK card looks like crap.  The Bykski block is 100 times better.  The EK card looks so bad that I took photos of it.  It's really disappointing that the card looks years old after 8 months.  I now have 3 of the Bykski blocks running and the one EK and I'm likely going to get rid of the EK.

Ok so I can't remember how to do photo's and the URL is obviously not working.
Try this I guess, all 5 or 6 photos there  https://postimg.cc/gallery/z5rmFbm
Images 4364 and 4365 show the worst of it.  Even the metal shows heavy wear.  Again, clean EK only fluid.  Other cards show little or no wear, very minor blue gunk.  4363 is the Bykski card

That doesn't look good at all. So do Bykski do active front, and back? Also, just to make sure, the issue discussed here is specific to the EK WB and does not affect Bykski at all?

I can't speak for anyone else.  All I can tell you in my experience, and my experience with EK has been pretty poor.  I had the early EK block that killed the cards.  Had never seen any threads on it and got rid of the block when I noticed a bend in the board when installed in the EK block.  Some weeks later I ran into the thread about the block being incorrect and required revision with extra spacers or something.  That was enough for me to say no more to EK.  The card I have that still had the EK block front and rear is a Dell Alienware model. (hey you know, 6 months ago you grabbed what you could get your hands on right?)  I moved my cards in the last couple weeks from a pair of regular cases into the Lian Li Desk case.  While moving I decided to do a full flush and clean.  The Bykski block and the EK block had the same time on them, same fluid was run through them on the same loop.  The Bykski card was actually the first in the loop.  When I saw what that EK block looked like I felt my opinion was only reinforced by the condition.  Frankly I find EK blocks overpriced and underwhelming.  They are 0 for 2 with me.  Hard to keep throwing money at that.  The Bykski blocks are cheaper, easier to get and seem to perform better.  I bought the front and back active blocks on ebay for $220 shipped from CHina.  They sent them Express and had them in a week or so.  So now I have 3 of the Bykski blocks front and rear on the 3090 FTW3 ultra cards and have had zero issues in the two weeks I've had the desk running.
Like I said, this is what I've experienced.  I'm sure there are others who don't feel that way and love EK.  More power to them.  But just the front block from EK is more expensive than both from Bykski.

After bricking and RMA'ing my 3080 twice I got the narrower standoffs but didn't have the courage to try a third time so bought an Auros pre-blocked card and ran the FTW3 in my work PC on air for a couple of years.  Not a complete waste as I was mining Eth on it.  Fast forward to this week and I decide it's a waste and I should try again to fit the EK block and backplate to put into my kids custom loop and replace his trusty old 2080.  I use the smaller standoffs and only tighten the screws until they're just snug (except for the four around the GPU, which obviously need some pressure).

Booted once, then bricked.

I'm kicking myself now for not trying with the stock backplate so I can use the spider to apply pressure to the chip in the way that EVGA intended and not via the PCB itself.  Has anyone used the spider and stock backplate but still ended up with a bricked card?
