That binary not touching the bios itself does not equate to a lack of correlation between firmware and bios. 



 
There is a correlation, and it is the fact that Precision X update software does look into the BIOS to check the exact card version we are running...
 
A while back I flashed the X3 BIOS into my FTW3 ULTRA HYBRID just because everyone said it was so good, and Precision prompt me with the MCU update. I made the mistake of updating and I ended up with an incorrect fan/led behavior and Precision thinking my card was actually a X3...
 
As soon as I went back to the main BIOS (where I still had my stock FTW3 ULTRA HYBRID BIOS) Precision asked me for an update again, which I did, and then I was back again with the correct MCU flashed and everything working fine.
 
In conclusion, there is a correlation between the BIOS and the update software because Precision is retrieving data from the BIOS to determinate if the BIOS and the MCU versions match, that's why Precision will always prompt us with the update if we happen to flash a BIOS from a different card...

I think Bmjet was just stating that precision x1 doesn't update you bios only firmware but yes x1 checks for the information of the bios to determine what firmware is needed for you gpu.

Just wanted to add that I can confirm this update helps to prevent it. Switched to my new KPE and PX1 detected as FTW3 Ultra then said I must before first in order for PX1 to apply the proper firmware update. After reboot, I puckered and accepted the firmware update and it was successful with the correct firmware.

Now if they could do something about my RGB randomly defaulting to rainbow puke mode after a while, that'd be great.

A request: Wouldn't I be able to release a firmware to leave my rtx 3060 TI with the original presets? I'm bogged down by this update .. Thanks.

It would be nice if they tested their software a bit to make sure it saved/retained/applied settings...I agree.
But they *ARE* a small company (in terms of amount of people that work there)

Any 3090 FTW3 Hybrid owner can confirm if they received the firmware update after installing the new PX1 version and if everything went OK with the update? I really don't feel like upgrading and having something that is currently working fine broken...

edited because I didn't like my post any more.  I really like EVGA and hope they can nail down a process to prevent these kinds of things from happening.

  • FTW3 Temp Mode now supports 3 areas
What does this mean and where can one see this?
 
I also update from 1.1.4 directly to 1.1.6 and the firmware version is 2.01.18, the card has a correct name above and everything looks fine. I am on 3080 FTW3 Ultra
