As an owner of a SC17 1070, I would recommend that you look at other options.
My SC 17 has been problem-free. The thermals are good. Much better than some other laptops I have owned. It isn't terribly loud. I think it is well made.
But, I think that there are probably better options. These laptops are discontinued, the laptop has a problem that causes the batteries to be discharged quickly when the laptop is not being used and not plugged in, some people have had issues with chargers and screens breaking, and quite a few people have had problems with the batteries failing, swelling, and damaging their laptop.
I took the battery out of my SC 17 and am using it plugged-in only. I don't want to risk the battery destroying my SC 17.
It's a good laptop, it's very tweakable, it's easy to work on, but it has problems. Since it is so old, and since I think that it is unlikely to last as long as you are hoping for, I can't recommend it to you.
