sadly man if you just signed up for a 3080 in the last few months you wont see one for years if they haven't already discontinued them by then. we all in the same boat some have many and the majority zero. crazy times. 

Should I assume that means there is almost no hope for normal cards, so in order to get an actual chance I must aim for a Ti model? 

Dude been waiting since 9.18.2020 for my 3080. At this point I wouldn't even bother with the queue I'd drive my ass to microcenter and hope for some luck or follow the discord card drop channels tbh

Enter queue for a 3070 on 6/12/2021, crossing my fingers I get notified soon.
My current graphics card is just starting to fail, which is a shock given it's a 660 and is 8 years old at this point.
Wish they could at least give a number of our position in the queue, or even a number to call or something. To be like, "Oh your number is xxx, the current queue number is xxw".

You can sign up on www.element35gaming.com and input your notify time to get a somewhat better idea but it isn't official.  I'm assuming you signed up for the 3070 Ti FTW3 in which case you have a very very long time to go and you may not even get a chance to buy it at all being that far out.  They have done like 4 drops so far since 6/10 and the time has only moved about 31 minutes.

Did you sign up for the ti cards? If so you may not have to wait years.. if you signed up for a regular 3080 that will be years imo. My sku hasn't moved for over a month now I believe and I have to believe it's because of the ti cards getting all the chips from nvidia

So what's the deal here? I've been in queue for all of the 3090 variants since 2/16/2021.  Same story with a few retailers that offer queue type stuff.  Is nVidia like not making chips anymore or is eVGA going out of business or what?

EXSUM:  Global chip shortage is the problem, NVIDIA can only get so many chips and they have to wait in line also.  They allocate them to the AIBs.  AIBs, including eVGA have binding contracts to fulfill with resellers.  There has been an overwhelming demand for GPUs, remote working and school, entertainment, mining, etc., that can not be met.  My expectation is that things won't return to some semblance of normal until next year.  As you've probably have read, more fabrication facilities are going to be built around the world including the US, but they won't be online for 24-36 months after they start construction.
 
As an additional note, I believe EVGA is the only AIB still selling GPUs direct to customers.

How fast do the 3060s normally go out?

I entered the queue on 10/06/2020 for a FTW3 Ultra 3080 and the card just arrived at my door step today 10/01/2021. Almost a full year and I was lucky I choose the right SKU to queue for. Not complaining, very happy to have gotten one at msrp.

EU queue does not move so i ended up buying a 6900 XT, if only evga also sold amd gpu's
