Hey, just wanted to share what I've been working on for the last couple of weeks. I've been searching for a large desk for ages that was minimalist yet rock solid and could not find anything that I liked or was extremely overpriced so I decided to just build my own. This was the first time I've ever done any kind of wood work that involved staining so it was a good learning experience.

I purchased a birch butcher block countertop from home depot that is 76"x38" (iirc) and 1 1/2" thick. I wanted a darker color stain and ended up stumbling across a homemade stain using vinegar and steel wool and I figured I would give it a shot. For now it is on some cheap Ikea desk legs but I'm working with my friend to help me fabricate something custom for the ends.

I have 2 storage grommets/beer holders in the front corners and 2 wire grommets in the back. Underneath is a wire management tray with everything zip tied away nicely and I'm using an Amazon Basics monitor arm.

Here are the results so far.

    I'm glad you all like it, once I can find a shop that can bend square tubing I'll have new legs made up for it. The end goal is for the legs to be similiar to these https://www.akadesign.com/aka-product/procreate/

    I'm also looking at the hanging shelf/drawer that is sold by Uplift but If anyone has any better suggestions I'm all ears.

    I could make those ends out of wood, but metal working is outside my skill set. 
     
    Depending on your comfort working with wood access to tools, my suggestion would be to make your own drawer.  You can make it as simple or elaborate as you want and completely customize it to your storage needs.
