My MB (msi z490i unify) is PCIe only for the m.2 slots. I wasn't paying attention and purchased a SATA drive. I can return it but I have to pay for shipping and an 18$ restocking fee. Or I can get an external enclosure and use it that way.
 
This was going to be a storage drive for music, pics videos ect..
 
Any suggestions on what way I should go?

    I would use it externally if it’s for music, video and pictures. Mostly those don’t need the extra speed and I wouldn’t pay the restocking fee over keeping it.

    Also the external drive means it can be part of your quick grab and go if you had to evacuate your home. Games can be redone loaded and played again but family videos and pictures are really important to save unless they put your life at risk to get to and unplug the drive.

    Using it as a backup is a good idea. That way if you need to format your main drive, you won't have to worry about moving your files.
