I got a EVGA supernova 850 ga a few months. Silent as a mouse on a 1080. I upgraded to a 3080 ftw ultra and now its singing big time. I can put my ear to the exhaust area of the PSU in the rear and thats where its coming from. I read there was a list of PSU that people were saying had no whine. edit: RMA'ed the 850 GA, got another one, NO WHINE!!!! WOOHOO!

My fanless PSU's fan doesn't sing. ;) Get a bigger PSU so that its load % isn't as high, and therefore the fan won't have to "sing" as fast? If it is indeed coming from the fan, you shouldn't be asking about coil whine. You said it is the fan, then you asked about coil whine. Does not make sense.

Could be. Yes, that is how a buck converter or switching power supply is constructed. Is it the fan, or is it coil whine? You said it was the fan. But, please confirm, is the fan spinning when it is "singing"? If you stall and stop the fan slowly with something soft, does the "singing" stop?

I put my ear next to where the cold air comes out of the PSU, at the backside of the computer. It never made a noise before I got the 3080. I cant stop the fan, its at the underside of the case and its super heavy. It only sings when I play intense games. I already talked to the wonderful EVGA customer service and we are working it out.

Similar situation with me. My G3 750 was 100% silent with my old 1080ti. I upgraded to a 3080 FE and it sings/squeals under load (well, when its not just randomly powering off, but that's a different story). Seems to go away after it warms up a bit, or perhaps just gets masked somewhat by the case fans when they ramp up. My research led me to a Corsair HX1000i as a higher quality replacement that had the biggest chance of being silent, but even tiny variations in manufacturing can cause one unit to make noise while another does not, so its always a bit of a lottery, and not something terribly important to me.

Had them since 2014 they are still very quiet
