Happy New Year all. My wife and I tried our hand at building our first PC using a GTX 1070 and have hit a snag. Hoping someone here may have an answer.

All of the hardware and wiring is in place and it powers on, but the monitor doesn't show anything. The only monitor port we can find is an HDMI on the GPU, which we've tested with two different monitors and a TV. The GPU and motherboard are both receiving power, so I'm thinking it might be a connection issue between them, though they seem firmly connected.

For reference, using a MSI MEG Z490 Unify motherboard and a 650w PSU. Let me know if there are any other details that would help in troubleshooting - I'm guessing it's something simple that the manuals don't cover, but we're lost at this point.

Thanks in advance for any guidance!

Could be a faulty output on the card. Sounds like you need to pickup a dp to hdmi cable for testing.

That'd be a shame, since it was fresh out of the box.  To make sure I understand, this would be to test the other output ports on the GPU?

Yes Hopefully its just one bad port on the GPU. Not Bad Gpu

Cap: Let us know the results of your troubleshooting. I've had a similar problem. Very curious.

Well, we were able to get the GPU replaced, but the same thing is happening.  We also got a new mouse for it and noticed the USB ports don't seem to be working, so now we're thinking it may be an issue with the motherboard.  Going to continue our detective work (though it's stalled due to a hand injury), so I'll check back here if and when we finally get it working.

Did you make sure you plugged in every power connector? How about the CPU power?

Someone should have asked you from the start to list your entire system specs ....

but from what I have read so far , sounds like the motherboard is faulty &/ or the cpu may be damaged. ( which can happen very easily when first learning on how to properly attach cooling onto the socket mounts... )

    * but also , these symptoms can occur when the user has not installed the motherboards necessary driver suites , usually provided on a disc in the motherboard box ( or it's website ) ..ie... chipset drivers, audio drivers, usb drivers, sata drivers,...etc...

Think we figured out what the issue was.  We originally had two Trident RAM sticks in the A2 and B2 slots as recommended in the manual - found a Reddit thread where the user was having similar troubles to us.  After trying different configurations, it finally booted with a single stick in B2.  May be counting my chickens before they hatch, since Windows is currently installing, but wanted to give an update ASAP.  Thanks for everyone's input and support along the way!

That's not good  if you can only boot with a single stick in the secondary B2 RAM slot. Most likely this is related to the CPU and socket.

I'm glad you said so - after installing Windows, unplugged it and tried adding the second RAM into A2.  It works now.  In addition to the RAM issue, tried unplugging and replugging everything into the PSU, so I'm guessing either the RAM or PSU wasn't connected properly, despite the lights.
