Disclaimer, I'm not an electrical engineer.

I keep seeing threads about 3080 / 3090 crashing. If this is you, you should try running separate "home runs" of 8 or 6 pin PEG (power wires from PSU to GPU) to your card instead of using one line from the PSU and using the piggyback connector (parallel connection). So for example, a 3080 XC3 Ultra would need (2) PEG 8-pin wires run from separate sockets from your PSU. A 3080 FTW3 Ultra, would need (3) PEG 8-pin connectors.
Also, make sure you have plugged in all your available 8pin (4+4) and 4 pin CPU power sockets on the motherboard
There is a reason Nvidia decided to go to a proprietary 12-pin connector from the PSU.

This worked for a couple of my friends and I hope it helps others.

This is a good thread, and echoes advice given earlier in different threads but it’s good to have an actual thread about this.

Single cables with a piggyback connector, while OK on paper, have been shown to be the cause of unreliability for some, there’s even YouTube videos showing performance decrease on older 1xxx and 2xxx series cards.
