Hi all,
I was lucky enough to score a position on both the hybrid and kingpin lists. My initial thought was to simply get the kingpin for the better PCB design due to the red light issues that I had seen in the forums. one part of me wonders if possibly having the hybrid cooler on the card may help alleviate some of those red light issues without knowing the actual cause it's tough to know for sure. The other thing the kingpin has in its favor is the presumed higher OC. That being said I do plan to use this card strictly for gaming and I wonder what the actual performance difference would be between the OCed hybrid and OCed kingpin cards at 4K. FYI: I will be keeping both cards on thier stock coolers and will not be doing any LN2 work.
Does anybody here have a sense for what kind of differences I might expect to see? Is it reasonable to assume that there may be fewer issues with the kingpin due to the different build or am I being overparanoid regarding FTW3 build?
As many on the Hybrid list I received my Hybrid notify today and I am now torn with pulling the trigger or waiting.

How much is that $200 worth to you? I probably would get the Kingpin just to avoid the PCB issues with the FTW3 but the difference will be like 1-2 frames at best for most games and likely none for a good chunk of others.

$200 isn't a big deal to me but also is not nothing. I would use it to go twords my cpu upgrade in q1. Have the PCB issues calmed down this last month? I feel I haven't seen near as many issues in the past 3 weeks or so.

For peace of mind I would go with kingpin. $200 is not much difference, but performance increase in games won't be much.

The problem with +$200 is that it's +$500 over the FE and in that kind of vain, you're paying a lot for probably maximum of 5% extra performance. Of course you get the better and more quiet cooling, but that doesn't mean your room is going be any cooler than a FE.
So really, why are you getting these cards? Just for gaming? Then get the FTW3. Do you have a lot of pleasure OC and tinkering with frequencies like some do? Then get the kingpin. If you don't, then the kingpin isn't for you. So why buy a kingpin to use it like a FTW3?
Also, the issues you read are probably a small fraction compared to people that don't have problems at all. It is highly likely a person with an issue would go online and complain about it to seek answers to their issues then someone with a good card wouldn't you say?

I've had two EVGA RTX 3090 Ultras, An ASUS Rog Strix RTX 3090 OC and a Nvidia 3090 FE since the RTX 30xx series came out.
After using all those, I am ready for a 3090 KP.

If you are balancing spend between GPU and CPU, there is something to be said for keeping a little left over to upgrade your CPU. You don't want a [link=mailto:kick-@ss]kick-@ss[/link] GPU to be constrained by a last gen CPU. Tough call; best of luck deciding what is best for you.

The TUF I had was garbage. Coil whine like crazy. Fans made I high pitch noise. FTW3 I got is so much better. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ejLTQZzlKo So many reports of people with those same issues on the Strix and Tuf.

With Ampere, gaming performance doesn't seem to scale well with OC at all. So if gaming is your strict use-case and this is your first time trying a KPE, you may end up disappointed/experience buyer's remorse. The plus-side this time around for the KPE is that it's "only" $200 more than the FTW3 so it's not as easy a decision as it would be otherwise. Unless you are really strapped for cash then I would just keep your spot in the KPE queue.
