I've gotten this problem a few times now while watching videos on YouTube. The screen goes black and I still have sound. Most of the time it fixes itself, Event Viewer says 'Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered'. A couple times the PC restarted. So is this a problem with the Nvidia drivers and I just have to wait for the next one to see if it keeps happening or is it the video card? Should I RMA? This never happens in gmaes though, only while watching videos. Nothing in my system is OC'd. I'm pretty my PSU is fine. It's a Corsair HX1000i.

There are a few issues with the latest drivers. Try and get a hold of 456.98 ( https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5099), so far that seems the most stable of all them. I am on 457.09 and Zoom does the exact same thing you mentioned 100% of the time when I join in a meeting. If I were to roll back to 456.98 its 100% fine. I don't want to ugprade to the .30 yet due to the issues are worse in games. I am sticking with .09 due to COD is slightly more stable on it for me than .98 was.

Oh wow. Yeah I forgot to mention it happens in Zoom also. I just uninstalled the latest and went down to 456.71. I'll try this version. Thank you.

Enable max performance inside the nvidia control panel globally. Reboot Pc. See how that works for you.

So this is just a driver thing? No reason to freak out and RMA? Lol.

Not sure. But running max performance has helped out people with the same issue.

My card died the next day and I had to RMA. Should be arriving next week. I have a feeling the same thing's gonna happen again. Sucks. But who knows, maybe it won't. But it seems like this has been a problem for a lot of people with this particular card.

This issue specifically has to do with running a custom fan curve (precision x1 or msi afterburner). Set it back to auto and you won't get the error. Took me a while to figure it out. Hopefully it's fixed in the next driver update

I'm having the same exact problem with my 3090 FTW3 ultra, and i do not have any custom fan curves enabled. The screen goes black for about 3-10 seconds. Fans will ramp up momentarily on the card. It seems to only happen when browsing, or in the battle.net launcher app (not while actively in a game).

Do you have Precision or Afterburner installed?

There still could be services running in the background. Uninstall it and reboot and see if it keeps happening.

This problem already has a pinned topic above. Its an nvidia driver issue, but has workaround until that.
