So I'm trying to get the best CPU to get the highest Port Royal Scores. On the latest EVGA Overclocking contest Jay used a 10900K chip and Steve used a 10900KF. Kingpin also used a 10900KF to get his record. Do Vince and Steve know something the rest of us don’t? I need to upgrade my CPU and I'm trying to decide between the 5950x and the 10900k or 10900KF. I currently have a 9900KF that runs a stable 5.1 and 5.2 not so stable. In the stream Jay said he and Steve were given 10900K's that Intel told them both that they could run 5.70. Is this possibly a new version of the 10900K is coming out such as a 10900KS maybe? Also does anyone know if the new intel rocket lake chip 11900k will be compatible with the Z490 motherboards or heard any rumors on this? If I go the intel route I will definitely buy the ZZ490 Dark Kingpin edition. Advice is greatly appreciated as this new Kingpin card deserves only the best! Plus I would like an advantage when getting back in the overclocking rankings.

The only diff between the 10900K and KF is the onboard Intel GPU. I could imagine one being able to potentially squeeze a little more performance out of the KF since it lacks the onboard GPU. However if you do anything with products like Adobe's suite, the onboard Intel GPU can give you a significant performance boost in things like media encoding. Unsure if you do this but wanted to ensure to share just in case

Thanks Mack! I'm a little weary of purchasing an Intel chip knowing they are releasing two new chipsets next year which has been confirmed by the company. It's really pushing me towards the AMD 5900/5950 or waiting until the second intel chip drops about a year from now. You know it will have better graphics performance than the 5950x but it will be a year old chip by then. I'm betting the 11900 matches the 5950x's graphics performance or is just a hare above but it, but it will not have the multicore capabilities. It will also be cheaper.... The deciding factor right now is that I cannot get my hands on a 5950x at all.

Yeah decisions decisions for sure, I never thought I would go back to AMD but once I went thread ripper I thought wow what a difference. My deciding factor was I wanted a true pcie 4.0 system including gpu, mobo, m.2 drives and cpu and intel just couldn't fill the void, pretty sad but as of now they still can't. Staying team red for now and for quite a while it looks like in my case.

I totally agree. Given the history of Intel vs AMD, I *assume* we will see Intel drop a new series that makes it look like they've been sandbagging and will blow away AMD's current line. I have no evidence to back up that occurring... but not making the jump BACK to team red just yet. :) For me personally, I am waiting to see what things look like at the midpoint of '21.

So I've decided to get the 5950X. Intel is releasing the 11900 this 1st quarter and will work with the Z490 (assuming you bought one with PCIe 4.0 which I can't confirm actually exists) then they plan to release the 12900 alder lake in the 4th quarter of next year with a new motherboard required. To keep up with intel over the next year it would require thousands of dollars or I can get the 5950X that will compete with the 11900 very well and last all through out the next year. Now I need help picking out the best X570 motherboard! I'm leaning towards the MSI X570 Ace as I have it now in the z390 form and like it but I'm open to suggestions.

I have started using AMD with the Impact VIII .
So far with just the 5800X but really , really impressed .
Hope my 5950 and 3600XT get here soon .
I will be using the 5950 with the KPE 3090 for benching.
BTW , I was Intel through and through with ALL 10th gen CPU's , 3 or 4 Apex XII as well as a 10980xe and DARK but these AMD chips knock the socks off ANY Intel chip.
Best  X570 board , either the one below or the Rog Crosshair VIII Dark .
If you like the gene, my favourite board, ever, you wlll love the impact VIII

Asus X570 Crosshair VIII Dark Hero if you are serious about over clocks and single thread performance.

From what I've read and if Port Royal is what you are after, go with Intel. Either way, these two platforms (1200 and AM4) are at the end of their life. FWIW

After having remained fixated on Intel through many generations, I’m switching to AMD for my current build around the 3090 GPU. Maybe once Intel sorts out their 7nm issues, the choice will become more difficult.
