I have been running into these same problems with the Z97 classified and the latest version of Windows 10. Sound issues at first, and now what seems like SATA related issues causing BSODs after boot with "page fault in unpaged memory" errors. A fresh Windows install did not fix it.

Luckily, I do not use that machine for gaming anymore, and have been able to make the machine work again with Ubuntu Linux instead of Windows.

jwtaylor99Well, here is my experience.  I tried running the update.bat for 1.07 and could not get the BIOS to boot.  I tried every combination of power/reset/red reset button with no success.  Finally I saw the BIOS selector switch on the MB.  It was set at B051.  I tried B052 - no success, and then B053 and I was able to the machine back up and running BIOS 1.02 and Windows 10 with 20H2 installed.  Really not sure how the switch works - I cannot find anything in the documentation regarding it.  If anyone has information on how the switch works I would appreciate some guidance.
thanks, jt

This is my recent experience also.

I tried to revert to BIOS 1.08 and my machine wouldn't even boot into BIOS (not even beeps). I was able to restore my system by using the motherboard BIOS switch to revert back to 1.02 and update the bad BIOS back to 2.06.

So you know, it is a BIOS selector switch. The mainboard can store up to three different versions of BIOS and the switch lets you choose which one to boot to. In my case switching to 1.02, booting into BIOS, then switching back to the bad one just before running the BIOS update back to 2.06 allowed me to get it back up and running.

I did not try 1.07.

I only even did any of this because after the latest update the workaround for the sound issue in Windows didn't seem to work any longer and I had to go through this hell.

It does seem to still work after getting the system back up and running, so I'm still on 2.06 with the sound issue and sound workaround.

Doesn't sound like EVGA even cares and won't provide any update.

Sounds like the only answer is to switch hardware since this won't get updates or fixes

Hello,

Same here I've stopped updating windows using this gpedit but yeh this is far from being a great solution and neither Microsoft or Intel seem to give a damn about updating anything or even replying to anyone. It has been 6 months that i haven't updated windows and some apps are starting to break for me which is getting extremely frustrating. This is my only rig capable of work and gaming and i really can't afford to buy anything new nor do i want to let this premium board rot away.

Can we please get an official statement from EVGA, everyone here is more than willing to help with data gathering!

Also, ngl but the people having boot issues after downgrading their bios are kind of freaking me out because I was about to try that. As you can see from my username me and certainly most of the people here have been longtime EVGA costumers, don't let us down like that.

Decided to dust off the old z97
z97 Classified 4790k
750ti
mini pci-e wifi card
NVME M.2 drive in a riser card running the OS
2.06bios with the newest PLX firmware
Fresh install of win 10 worked fine till it connected to the internet, then would blue screen after 1-2 minutes if that long.
Ended up doing what other did and just disable the PCI Simple Communications Controller (I have yet to re enable)
Running with all the current updates as of 4/23, even played with fire and used the windows driver updates.

Hi,

So, did you also disable Intel's IMEI driver?
I'm still tempted to try it, since this is my only current rig and i'd like to have windows up do date.

Just to get things clear you're running the BIOS using v2.06 (I don't use any PCIe drives) and just disabled/uninstalled the Simple PCI communications device driver?

With my fresh install this was the only item windows could not identify(so i disabled this before connecting to the internet with a fresh install). When I tried to install it would blue screen.
Not sure what it looks like with an existing install.
And yeah 2.06

For Z97 owners at least, if you get stuck in the boot loop of BSODs and no way to load into Windows, check out my solution here:

forums.evga.com/EVGA-Z97-CLASSIFIED-and-Intel-Management-Engine-Interface-BSOD-because-of-BIOS-206-m3231063.aspx

Hopefully it helps you all.

PS, edits were for trying to attach the link. It wouldn't, so I had to remove the https:// part. You will most likely need to add that.

Bad news for anyone still rocking a Z97 board.  I contacted EVGA support and here was their response:

"Thanks for reaching out to us and sorry to hear about these issues you are having. EVGA does not plan to release a revised BIOS to solve the issues with the Z97 chipset unfortunately ass the products are end of life and Intel has dropped all support for this chipset. While we understand this is unfortunate EVGA does not currently have a work around to work correctly with a new version of Windows. We do apologize for the inconvenience."

Yes, they said "ass the products"

Use BIOS version 1.07 to circumvent the Microsoft Windows 10 2004 (20H1), 20H2, and 21H1 PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA error; this worked for me on my EVGA Z97 Classified. You will most likely have to reinstall the OS, though.
