EA late last week confirmed that the studio is working on the next chapter in the "Battlefield" franchise, unsurprisingly titled "Battlefield VI." What remains to be seen is the production design, whether EA DICE sticks to its formula of making the next Battlefield a AAA set-piece and technology demonstrator, much like how BFV was among the first games with real-time raytracing, although the mandate from EA CEO appears to favor a "truly next-gen" approach. Pressure from EA's bean-counters will also ride heavy on DICE to make at least one of the components of the game to be e-sports optimized, and feature a battle royale multiplayer mode. We predict the implementation could be similar to the current Call of Duty, which features a nested "Warzone" mode in addition to a AAA campaign experience. EA DICE is targeting a Holiday 2021 tentative release for "Battlefield VI."

Battlefield games have made a lot of cash, so it makes sense to me that the franchise will continue.

Battlefield Hardline was the last one I really enjoyed. Hotwire was easily one of my favorite game modes ever. Blood money and heist were really fun too.

You can be really good at car games or giant MP FPS. But the thrill in trying to make a run in a car thru the city streets with people at every corner and roof trying to blow you up..while your passengers in the back seat are shooting at the car chasing you down and a transport helicopter with a window gunner was such a rush lol. In hotwire the whole enemy team can see the obj cars on the map soo it was freaking intense 😃

They need to stop removing more and more of the vehicular combat just to appease the "rated clan pubstomper" crowd.
BF and CoD have started to invert polarities, like the Southern Strategy. But less fun.

Yeah I figured this would be bigger news coming with a trailer like EA typically does.

I think what made BF1 and V fall off to a large degree was the focus on individual assignments like getting skins or uniforms for being bipoded for 20 kills with whatever LMG...this is an example, not trashing LMGS.

BF used to be more fun to me because it focused on squad and play, which helped team-play. IDK if it's the players or the influence of the in game achievements but everybody does their own thing now which doesn't work with a 4 man squad. I have other gripes but to me the biggest failure of BF is not promoting squad and/or objective play more. Personally, I don't have high hopes for the next BF title. They've been going in the wrong direction for a long time imo.

I really enjoyed BF 3 and 4 with all expansions back then.
But I think I had enough multiplayer FPSes, so definitely need much longer break from this kind of games. RPG's on the other hand I can keep playing forever.

Could care less. EA made some trash for BF5 and they pretty much do nothing about the cheating in their games.

I really enjoyed the onslaught mode in BF2 Bad Co. I haven't played many battlefield games since, but I hope this upcoming title will have something of sorts similar to it which pits you against bots with up to three other players. I'd even be fine with a horde mode much like gears of war which puts you on the defensive against bots with increasing odds and allows for the building of defensive structures to aid your survival and enhance strategy.

I've been done with this series.  I'm old school I think 1942 was the best until they separated player pools with the DLC.

They won't change anything to the cheat situation. The situation has become worse and worse over time and EA seems to not really care what legitimate customers think, that's why they ban you for talking about it on their forums.

Agreed, although I gotta say, I miss the mod Desert Combat.  Easily one of the best mods ever.

I also really enjoyed playing up through BF3. Although I have bought and tried all releases since, I just can’t engage with it anymore. Maybe it’s me, but I feel like EA lost the plot.
