I am running 2 monitors, a 32" with 144hz refresh and a 27" at 60hz.  When I start the computer the 32" (main) shows the splash screen for entering bios and then flickers and shuts down with no input and the other monitor never shows anything.  I literally have to unplug the 32", let it boot into windows on the 27" and then plug in the 32" to get it to work.  At first I thought it was the monitor, the 32", but that works fine if it is plugged in alone, the same with the 27".  Then I thought it might be the mother board, I had an Asus Z490-E Gaming that had a few other issues with it so I replaced that with an MSI MPG Z490 Gaming.  That fixed the other issues I had but not the monitors... Do I have to have monitors with the same refresh rate on this card for it to boot up?  I had difficulties on my 1070 when I first used them on it, but that ironed out after a while.. now with the upgrade to the 2070 it just amplifies the problem and I cannot even get it to post without disconnecting one of the screens and then plugging the other in after the comp boots up. Any thoughts or suggestions??

Are you on a clean install of windows? I highly recommend doing that if not. Some things could get mucked up in the registry over time and it's impossible to really diagnose. Having said that, no you don't have to have the same refresh rate at all for a multimonitor setup. I have run fine for years now a 144Hz ultrawide with a secondary 60Hz monitor. Ran just fine on my 1080 Ti, RTX 2080 Ti and now on my RTX 3090. Try a clean install of windows as I was suggesting. Also since you have an Intel CPU have you tried running the second monitor off the iGPU on your CPU?

No it is not on a clean install.. I just built the computer 4 months ago and replaced the mobo on it this week. It was having issues with the monitors right from the start.

Definitely try a clean install then.

On the install. Should I just hook up one monitor to the integrated gpu to do it? Or start with both hooked up to the graphics card right away?

Are you're trying to imply that there is some "known" issue with RTX 2070 cards? If so that is definitely not the case. Just because you've seen a few posts doesn't mean there is an underlying issue.

It shouldn't matter, but if you do decide to hook a monitor up to the iGPU remember to activate integrated graphics in your BIOS and then set your PCIE device to primary display adapter.

Well, i reinstalled and got through setting the comp back up, had to restart a few times for the installation and updates. The monitors worked fine until about the third restart and now are doing the same thing.  The main shows the flashscreen for the motherboard where you can get to the bios, gets past that, flickers and then nothing.  I can unplug it and leave the secondary monitor plugged in and it is fine, or I can plug the main monitor in with a hdmi to display port cable (limiting the monitor to 60hz) and it works fine. Unfortunately now back to the same issue.. If I have the display port plugged in and try to run it on 144hz it will not boot into windows at all. With the reinstall all I can think of is the monitor is going bad or something.  I have tried it in the all of the display ports in the video card, each with the same result.

Just to confirm that both monitors work fine at their native resolutions and refresh rates on their own correct? It's only when attempting to run dual monitors that you're having issues? If the monitor isn't running at it's 144Hz refresh rate while plugged in by itself, it could be a bad cable or the monitor itself going bad. If the monitor does work at it's intended resolution and refresh rate on its own and it's only when attempting to run dual monitors that issues arise, then you may actually have an issue with your card that needs attention be it faulty firmware or a malfunctioning display output.

The monitor that has 144hz will not stay on past the Mobo splash screen if plugged into comp by itself on a display port cable, nor will it do so with another monitor plugged in as a secondary. If I have it connected with an HDMI cable connection, which limits it to 60hz, it will turn on when the comp is started, whether it is by itself or plugged in with a secondary.  Now if I have it unplugged on startup, when the system is booted up it runs fine on the secondary monitor, I can then plug in the display port cable and it will turn on and run no problems at the 144hz.  It will simply not play on startup whether by itself or in a multi monitor setup, it will freeze the system and not allow the computer to boot past the Mobo splash screen.

Try a different DisplayPort cable. Do not use "converters" they are nothing but trouble when it comes to trying to get higher refresh rates.

Turn off your iGPU on your CPU. Boot into Windows & go to NVIDIA Control Panel with just your 144Hz monitor connected. If your monitor has it, enable G-Sync, do a Change Resolution to the monitor's specs.

    Apply and restart.

Boot into Windows again. Remove the monitor from the GPU & plug in your other one into a different port. Go into NVIDIA Control Panel and do your adjustments for that monitor. Now plug in the gaming monitor into the port you used to set it up earlier. See if they start to play nicely.

Definitely try another DP cable and if that doesn't work then you have a problem with your monitor.
