Hi all. First thanks Evga for doing the right thing an allowing normal customers to get a card. Thanks to the queue approach, I was able to get a 3080 FTW3!  So my question is do I NEED a gpu brace for this card? I do notice a slight droop but does the metal backframe provide enough support to prevent further droop in the long run and protect the card/pcie slot?  Thank you.

Edit: My previous card was a MSI 2080 ti (though now will be a lifetime eVGa customer) and that included a gpu brace. I guess they felt that that card needed one, and I believe that the MSI 3080 also comes with a support bracket.

Somebody asked this question to Jacob on twitter and he said no brace was necessary.  That said, given the size of these 3080s across all of the AIBs, I plan to.  Several reviews have noted these cards are some of the heaviest they've seen and seeing that braces are not that expensive, I don't think it is a terrible idea to pop one in.

I ordered the GPU brace from Lian Li.  It's super discreet, you'll never see it.

Some OEMs wanted a way to attach the card to their case ... this reduces the load on the PCIe slot ... especially in shipping

I tried one of the nice brackets from UpHere. Problem is the card is so tall in the slot that most of the positions available for the adjustable support piece ended up being in the fans. I was able to find a small spot between them, but I was worried it might slip into the fan so I'll be returning it.

That is exactly what I purchased, and waited for to arrive before even installing my FTW3U.  However, it says that it has a magnetic base, and while that's technically true, the magnet is ridiculously weak.  It can't support the stand if you mount it horizontally (just to test the magnet strength) but even worse, it can't even really prevent the stand from shifting around the base of the case.  What I had to do was adjust the mount enough that I could press up just slightly on the card (which was already sagging somewhat) to fit it under the end of the card under one of the "waves" and the card's pressure prevents the stand from slipping...not the base.

I used the upHere brace for my EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra I installed just yesterday. I ordered it because I was afraid the 3090 would be too heavy. However, I replaced an EVGA RTX 2080Ti FTW3 Ultra that didn't have a brace and the cards are appx the same size and weight. If I have to remove the card for any reason such as to blow out the dust in a couple of months I probably won't put the brace back in because it just adds to the re-install time for probably no reason.

That Lian Li bracket seems very good, wish it would fit in my mobo. Ended up ordering the cooler master and UpHere braces to see which one would be better.

Very cool.  I think I'm going to try this one as well.  I'm still trying to figure out how the standoffs work.  Do they screw into the motherboard standoffs?

I went with the cooler master because the logo is muted and hardly noticeable. The UpHere was obnoxious.

Is that a 280x case? If so, what size fan did you put in the back?

It's the 680X, I removed the glass from the front  Total fans, 2 140 RGB ML on top, 3 120 ML Pro's on the front, 2 140 ML Pros on the bottom, 1 140 ML pro on the back.  I love the ML fans, whisper-quiet.

You just remove two screws from the motherboard and replace them with the standoffs. Basically, the tall ones sandwich the MB in between the case's normal ones.

The top of the standoff is a circular crown which matches the machined holes on the each end of the bracket. You then screw two small screws into the standoff to secure the bracket. It's pretty simple.

What about motherboards that have the armor plating like the Maximus XI Code? Can it still work?

I just measured the spare standoff which was in the kit. It's 15mm tall. I hope that helps.
