Anyone know what the difference is between the 850 GA and the 850 G5 is?  The specs look pretty much the same.

I've seen multiple reports of 750+ watt GAs not being able to handle the transient power spikes of the 30 series cards and hard restarting the owner's PC. The higher models (not higher watt rating) PSUs appear to not have this issue.

You have any direct links to the reports on the GAs not working well with the 30 series card?  I also happened to see someone ask Jacob this question on the 850 GA and he's investigating.  I have an unopened one waiting for the 3080 to come in next week and has sowed the seed of doubt for the time being.

There are a few threads on Reddit that talk about issues with various power supplies and setups including the GA series. Some are pointing to transient power spikes of the cards causing the PSU protection to trip and shutdown.  Haven't seen anything yet in terms of controlled testing so it's anecdotal now. I just purchased and installed the SuperNova 850 GA and am now also having some concerns as I wait for my turn in the notification queue.  I sent an email to EVGA asking if they know anything more about the @EVGA_JacobF tweet and will wait it out for now.

I spoke with tech service this morning and they told me that the GA series PSU issue with the RTX 3000s is not widespread, and only happens with a certain combination of components/settings.  He said that if there is an issue they would replace the unit with another type (I'd expect to pay for any $ difference).  There is a specific thread on this topic in the GPU section of the forum and no one has yet vouched for the GA series working fine with the 3080/90 so I don't know what to expect.

Thanks for the confirmed stories and update from tech.  I'm weary of opening my PSU, but it does have a 10 year warranty, so if anything goes south, I guess I'll get it replaced; definitely an advanced RMA if that comes to be.  Let's all hope ours works and have the "good" combination of parts and settings.

I'm having shutdown issues with a brand new EVGA 750 GA unit, with a 3080FE GPU. 1080p works fine but as soon as I play 4k something, it shuts down.

I know this is an old thread but I'm checking to see if anyone has any follow ups on the 850 GA power issues

If you're buying EVGA PSUs outside of G2/P2/T2, you're taking a risk because EVGA PSUs have fallen ever since the G3.
