My card just got the red light a few hours ago. Installed on Oct 28, heard a pop, monitors went down, system restarted, no light bar or fans. Red led is above the right hand plug.

Same here 1h ago. Monitors went black and after restart fans just pull out and red light over left power connector. this happened after 10 months of use.

What cards do you guys have (you didn't say)? Also, what were you doing when the cards blew?

3080 ftw3 ultra

I ordered my 3080 FTW3 two days ago and received it today. First time I added it to my system, I had a red light. Made sure power cables were snug, then tried again. No video, but RGBs are on.
 
Do I need to pay EVGA shipping costs for a brand new product that didn't work on the first day? :( My PSU is fine (850W gold), and my friend's Gigabyte 3080 works in my machine without any issues. 

For those curious, EVGA confirmed my card was likely dead on arrival. Here's the steps I tried before we arrived at that conclusion:
 
"Upon installing the new GPU, I get a black screen on all ports. Bios screen and Windows don't show, but I can hear the computer booting into Windows. Steps tried:

• Run 3x individual PCI power cables into the card (I have an 850W Gold PSU that's <1yr old so power delivery shouldn't be the issue)
• Ensured device was seated properly in mobo and clicked in (X570 Aorus Elite) 
• Reset CMOS
• Installed newest BIOS on MOBO, newest NVIDIA drivers on windows
• Disabled fast boot 
• Tried another brand's 3080 - works flawlessly (Gigabyte Eagle 3080)
• Tried 3 different displays individually using displayport and HDMI

Worth noting: The first time I installed the GPU, a single red light illuminated and the GPU wouldn't power on. I ensured that the power cables were snug and rebooted - now the EVGA RGBs cycle, but fans do not spin and picture is black. "
 
Support offered a cross-RMA with prepaid shipping label - it will place a ~$1750 hold  until the defective card is returned. The replacement card should be new. 

Update: Received a new 3080 and was able to get it up and running.
 
I also had issues with the new 3080 initially.

• However, I tried reseating the GPU several times (X570 Aorus Elite - known to have seating issues with this card).Next, I noticed that my third PSU cable's pins didn't look right (PSU pin holes looked too 'open') - I plugged in the second half of the same cable's daisy chain instead.
  • Turns out the Gigabyte 3080 has a known issue with messed up molex-style pins on the GPU. That GPU's pins got screwed up during testing and may have screwed up my PSU cable's pins as well!
  • The Gigabyte 3080 needs to be sent for RMA now too 
• Then I cleared CMOS again. System booted successfully. :) 

 

3090 FTW3 Ultra, purchased November of 2020, rev 0.1, been running (underclocked 50hz) nearly a year without issues.  30 minutes in to playing New World for the first time and I got black screens and red light.  Tried card in a dif pc, same issue.  Have my old 1070 FTW Hybrid back in my machine for now while I wait for Monday to RMA this thing.  Refunded New World as well, not taking any additional chances with that (although I was enjoying it for the little time I COULD play before I bricked the card).

I’m right here with ya. This morning my 3080 XC3 black screened and now got the 1 red LED. It’s strange because it was working fine for the first 3 weeks then last night I downloaded precision and it did a firmware update and everything changed. The card started clocking higher than it ever had and it wouldn’t downclock at all while in areas of the game where it previously would. I feels like precision or the firmware update added an overclock to the card because I had never seen it clock higher than 1755 but it was jumping to 1955.

Nasty. How old was it? What were the first 2 digits of the serial number (its the year it was built).
 
All 3080's will boost to around 1955 due to Nvidia's 'GPU boost 5.0' so that shouldn't have been a problem itself. I guess your card just had a physical defect, anything precision done was irrelevant, and it was always going to die either way.

I saw a post of a theory that it was cards with a serial number starting with 2014 that were dying back in like December. No idea if there something too it but my card was a 2014. I also had a 3600 then I upgraded to a 5800x back at the beginning of April. I play a wide range of games demanding and not. And mine happened while playing final fantasy xiv, I can’t remember what it ran at as I just got back into it but I don’t believe that game on that hardware pulls a full load at all

Mine just died whilst in the middle of a game, little pop noise, everything went black and the lovely red light on the far right power connector.
 
Also happens to be a 2014 serial model.... interesting.

Just double checking... my 3080 is a 2014 serial number, what exactly should I do to avoid killing my card? Cap all my games fps?

EVGA may have "unparalleled customer service", but the way they have handled/are handling the FTW failures is illustrated by @cjnewson88's comment. EVGA has a product manager. Consider the FTW 30 series mismanaged(at best). Soldering issues? Far less than 1%? Not buying it. This is a pre and post New World plague. RLODs have been ever-present with these SKUs, even after delaying their launch to more closely copy what ASUS did with power delivery(CAP-gate).

Even a platitude could be welcome: implying that all 'common failures are entirely independent', or 'the frequency of these reports skews the number of satisfied customers relative to the failure report-frequency inherent to the forum'.

This is kickstarter-class communication(aka the meat of the issue is clandestine).

Yeah I would agree @rjbarker however neither of my cards failed whilst I was using them, in both cases the session I was having they were great until I shut down my PC then rebooted it the following morning.
 
The first card didn't come with the XOC bios and so I had flashed that bios to it, it happened after opening precision X1 and doing the update it asked me to do despite being on the latest bios already, MCU update???.
 
The second card came with the XOC bios installed in the OC switch position on the card. I didn't even attempt to OC either card yet but all i had done on the second card is increased its power limit to 119% as allowed with the XOC bios.

In the next card I get I wont even bother Overclocking it or increasing the power limit, hell I'm not even putting it on the XOC switch position, because I'd actually like a card that lasts me longer than a week.
 
If I could find a strix anywhere i would have switched a long time ago.
 
My previous build I have 4 x ASUS Titan X's and they ran flawlessly.
 
Disappointed doesn't even begin to describe my experience with EVGA this time around! 

My 3080Ti FTW3 Ultra is added to the list of dead cards.
Running under water fine since end of Aug.....couple of no display Post Code 97's...then muscled through it n got it working again.....then heard a "pop" from within the GPU....no display....Mobo doesnt detect the Card at all.
Put the Stock Air Cooler back on and tried out in another system....no display n fixed red LED over PCI-E Plug #2 (middle).
 
See bold above...exactly how my failure occured, in fact completed 3 hr gaming session the night before...shut down...next AM start up and dead!

I just received my 3080 FTW3 serial 2112 and I am worry to open it now. it is still sealed.
Please someone with new card can confirm ?

My Day 1 original card....still going strong.
 

Just received my 4877 today. Uninstalled my Evga 2080ti XC Gamer, added another vga cable to my Evga 850w G+ps. Powered up, no video just that red light. System would radomly reboot, video fans would spin up for second and that's it. Judging from the number of issues folks are having, even with replacement cards, I think I'm going to request a refund and reinstall my 2080ti which still has 3+ yrs. on an extended warranty. I guess I've been pretty lucky. This is the first defective card I've had in 24yrs. of computing.

Man...do I feel like an idiot. I uninstalled my 4877 and installed my 2080ti only to experience basically the same thing except this red light was on the motherboard ( Gigabyte Z390 Gaming Sli). Turned out to be a power issue with the cpu! Checked the 24 pin connection to the motherboard which I must have disturbed and viola, it posted and all is good. Took out the 2080ti, reinstalled the 4877 and all is well. I have to go back and reconfigure my bios since it seems everything was reset to default but no big deal. I guess I'll be canceling that RMA.
