I have an EVGA SuperNOVA 750P2 powering my RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra. Of course this card takes three 8-Pin power cables, which is fine. The cables included with the PSU are confusing me though. There are 2x 8-Pin to 8(6+2)-Pin connectors and 2x 8-Pin to both an 8(6+2)-Pin and 6-Pin connector. I don't really understand the use of the second type with two GPU side connectors.

This might be a completely stupid question, but it is okay to use the 2x 8-Pin to 8(6+2)-Pin connectors and 1x 8-Pin to both an 8(6+2)-Pin and 6-Pin connectors to power the three slots on the GPU? It feels wrong to use that cable with two connectors on the end. Common sense tells me that if the extra 6-Pin connector isn't connected to anything, then it shouldn't matter, but it is bothering me.

Here is a link to a picture of the cable. https://imgur.com/a/zrD5IXM

The 6 pin connector can just tuck underneath the other wires. It won’t hurt anything.

I would personally connect the 6+2+6 to the connector closest to the end or the middle, so that tucking the 6 pin hides it behind the other cables and creates a cleaner appearance.

Ok, thank you. I am just worried about everything because the last 3080 died, so I am trying to make sure it isn't caused by the PSU setup. I just got my RMA a few minutes ago and I am worried about setting it up.

Just make sure you are using the split ends on the GPU side, and leave the extra 6 pin unplugged. Hopefully this install goes better than the last and last time was just a fluke.

What @the_Scarlet_one said but I'm with you. I HATE the way those cables look to the point of I'm buying custom cables just to get away from them.

I don't have an EVGA PSU, mine rhymes with horse hair, but those cables kick my OCD into overdrive. Same thing with the EPS cables. I understand that in most cases the one 8 pin connector is plenty for the CPU but what exactly is the point of the 4+4 EPS cable? If I'm going to connect both for the love of the sweet baby jebus give me an 8 pin and a 4 pin cable.

Horse hair... hahahaha.

Also, my ASUS motherboard has an 8 pin and 4 pin EPS, so I have the use the 4x4 EPS on one of them...

Same mobo brand here and as I mentioned some things about computer builds just drive me nuts. I'm not a cable routing nazi, I don't go bananas over RGB but man ... cables with extra connectors like my horse hair pci-e cables with 2x 8 pin connectors per cable just absolutely bug the hell out of me.

Same thing with the EPS cables. I get that I don't need to plug anything into the 4 pin socket but it just seems wrong not to for whatever reason and since I can't recall ever seeing a mobo with anything other than an 8x4 EPS socket why don't PSU suppliers just include an 8 pin, a 4 pin and call it a day? I could care less if the socket on the PSU itself is 8 pin but man .. hiding the 4 pin in the 4x4 plug just bugs me.

If I decide to start a PSU company tomorrow, fat chance of that, all my PSU cables will be flat and I won't do janky stuff like putting extra connectors on cables that are unused.
