Put together a Z490ftw with a non-k 10700. I read a few articles that you can still increase speeds on the non-k models and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with doing this? What settings could I change?

Also I was curious what mhz were you able to get out of you memory with a non-k 10700. I have 32gigs corsair model CMK32GX4M4C3000C15 in it right now and defaults to 2133mhz. Tried the 3000mhz xmp profile and it didn't boot which I expected. The 3000mhz xmp profile sets it to 1.35 volts, do I need to go higher maybe? Do I need to try and boost the CPU first?

Any advise or your own personal experience with similar setups is appreciated.

Z490 or Z390 (Looking at your sig and question)?

I just went into the BIOS, told it to OC and boom. 4.50, 3200 ram is running @ 4200...

Hums like a well oiled machine...

Sorry didn't mean to confuse, my sig is my personal PC. The one I just built with the z490 is another PC.

With a 4dimm kit you may have to manually set the speed and give yourself a .1-.2v boost to get the xmp speed. Also have you updated to latest bios? That will help with memory compatibility.
As for boost on 10700 series I was underwhelmed by the stock boosting behavior. My cpu just stayed at 4.7ghz and never boosted to 5.1 on any core watching in intel xtu and hwinfo, even on closed loop always below 60c.
I have decided to run it at 5Ghz 1.29v static core and I was able to complete bench/stress at 1.28 but always give myself a lil extra room.

Indeed It cannot be overclocked. I am just saying to not expect much from the stock boosting behavior of the 10th gen 10700 in general.

Am I misinterpreting what this guy did to his 10700.

I don't really have to do this I was just curious if it was worth playing around with. I also wasn't sure if getting higher memory speeds would benefit from this sort of increase on the CPU or of it's completely independent and doesn't matter in terms of getting memory OC to be stable.

So just to try it and see what happens...I did the automatic conservative gaming OC that the bios offers. It set it to  4.5ghz and booted right up no issues. This is a non-k 10700 which is why I was confused if this is possible or am I not really overclocking this thing.

I know that it should already be doing Turbo and increasing speeds while gaming or under stress so do I really even need to use this? Or just leave it default.

According to Intel having it stay at maximum turbo at all times is not technically overclocking.

If you can set it to 5Ghz that way your 2 most powerful cores always are at 5Ghz and the others will hold the highest possible GHz depending on what the ring ratio is (from my experience with K grade anyway) try it and see what HWinfo reports for core speeds.

In this build I also have CMK32GX4M4C3000C15 which I can't get to run at 3000mhz. I've also tried the XMP settings and the lowered the mhz to 2933, 2900, and 2800 which also did not boot. When I do the XMP profile it brings it up to 1.35v, are there any other settings I should try to boost to try and get a stable boot?

I have the same LPX kit just 2x 16gb modules, and they went into xmp1 3200mhz no problem. have you tried swapping the sticks around or increasing memory voltage .01-.02 and see if it boots?
I also assume you are on latest bios? I know there were some memory stability fixes for 4dimm kits so perhaps that is it.

Yeah I grabbed the latest bios 1.08, I tried 1.4 volts up from 1.35, and I could try higher to see if it helps. This is the 4 stick kit so haven't tried swapping them around yet.

Well I finally got the memory to run at almost advertised speeds. I was able to get it to boot and run through a passmark test at 2933Mhz. Before I was stuck at 2133Mhz and couldn't get higher. I'm not sure if it was the 1.08 bios or the fact that I incrementally went up from 2133 > 2400 > 2667 > 2933 and then finally discovered that it would crash at 3000 still. This is my wife's PC I built so now she'll do some gaming and see if any BSOD's show up since getting the speed up.

For anyone curious who has the same issue and memory, I'm using this kit CMK32GX4M4C3000C15, I set XMP profile 1, left everything as is except change the memory speed from 3000 down to 2933Mhz.

If anyone has advice on how to try and actually hit 3000 I'll give it a try, but at this point it's already almost there so maybe best to leave it be.
