Hello, I've had  xc3 3080 card for a week and just noticed it's drawing 100w idle. Stock settings except for fan curve ( always on), gpu usage is showing 0-2% idle. The idle temps (open case) are 50c with all three fans at ~1100-1300 rpm with ambient room temp <22c. Is this normal or no? For reference, under full load ~320W and 100% fans, the temps are under 65c. Coming from a 1070 that sat well below that 100w idle power draw and <40c idle, just seems off to me. I did do a driver update today because I was getting BSOD (nvlddmkm.sys) and also latest gpu fw through x1 software if that means anything. For other with a 3080, does yours behave the same?

Thanks

Check your clocks and driver power settings.  Do you have a multi-monitor setup?

Do you have your windows power profile set to high performance(check nvidia control panel power settings too)? It won't go to idle if so

I always leave my windows in High Performance mode my 1080Ti clocks all the way down when at the desktop.
High Performance mode in the NV control panel will keep your card ramped up though.

There used to be a bug that if you had a high refresh rate monitor that cards would stay at their lowest 3d clocks.  They fixed that a long time ago.
Like Kevin said I know dual monitors used to keep cards at 3d clocks but its been a while since I used dual monitors.

Make sure you don't have any programs running in the background that could bump you up to 3d Clocks.  Task Manager will show this.

Thanks for the suggestions, tried setting windows power plan back to balanced and optimal in nvidia control to no avail. No 3d programs running. Running card with single 4k monitor.

Sometimes you need to reboot for "Optimal Power" to take effect.

Thank you, that did it! 20w-30w draw, 37c idle.

I posted this in the other thread too, but nvidia control panel power setting and windows power settings have no bearing on this issue. it's also specific to the 3000 series cards.

It will sometimes idle randomly in desktop regardless of Optimal / Max Performance, but it goes back up and "gets stuck" in 3d clocks again after a little while.

Seems like similar behavior to mine, you can see in image above the clock did randomly dip below the 1710 lock, or maybe that was just one time. I assume you have the latest drivers already but maybe try DDU (in safe mode) on the card and reinstall the latest driver .There is also the latest 3080 fw in the latest 3000 series precision x1 software (1.1.0.2), try that too if you haven't already, that's what I did. Also, I kept windows power plan on high performance. Seems it was the nvidia control panel setting (optimal) > reboot that fixed issue for me.
