Bethesda has released a major update for the original DOOM & DOOM II which brings various new features such as Steam support, native widescreen rendering support, DeHackEd support, Deathmatch 3.0 in split-screen multiplayer, crosshair support, and more across the PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Android and iOS ports of the games. The new widescreen rendering support is the first time in an official port, the original DOOM renderer has been modified to natively render 16:9 without any letterboxing. This update should greatly improve the performance and Quality of Life for gamers.

Anyone who already owns either The Ultimate DOOM or DOOM II: Hell On Earth on Steam will automatically receive the new re-releases in their libraries. The original DOS versions are still available as a separate launch option from within Steam, and the original DOS IWAD files are in their original location on disk. Please note: if you have modified the files in the Steam install folder directly, some files may be overwritten. You should not modify files in the Steam folder directly, as this may cause issues. Anyone who purchases Steam copies of DOOM or DOOM II: Hell On Earth in the future; it will default to the re-releases but can access the original DOS versions as a separate launch option from within Steam.

It's amazing that the original titles are getting some nice updates.

This is awesome. I grew up playing ZDaemon, which is essentially what kept Doom 2 Deathmatch alive well into the 2007 time frame.

Maybe this will bring some new life back to such a great game. Who knows, maybe the Doomgods will resurface. There’s a lot of great players out there

Nice, now they just need to Add Proper support to 76 (UI is rubbish in ultrawide) and actually add it to Fallout 4 and Skyrim. rather than me having to use mods!

Well that's yet another reason to dust off those games.
