Here is a pic of my fan curves.  Be sure to check the little box on the left to enable the fancurve.  I recently got the FTW3 Ultra, but it is the same curve.

Lian Li Lancool II Case.  Push Pull airflow.  Two intake fans front, one intake bottom.  One outflow back, and two outflow top.  Pull on front of CPU, push out toward back fan on back of CPU.

Thanks! I this the XC3 Ultra Gaming with the factory OC or just the XC3 Gaming?

*edit FTW? That's a larger cooler than the non-FTW, XC3 gaming I'm in the queue for. (I thought the picture looked like 3 8-pins)

I have both XC3 Ultra, and FTW3 Ultra. The OC switch just changes the fan curve to aggressive.  The XC3 should be the same as the XC3 ultra, the only difference is the Ultra is clocked a little higher.  So your temps should be in the same line as mine if you have good airflow.
Here is the same PC with the FTW3 in it with 12 pins.... the last 8 are a black cable, so it is hard to see.

Oh good. My airflow is decent. The only demanding thing I do is VR sim racing. Since I'm wearing headphones, I have the case fans set to blast when the CPU reaches 55C. GPU fan curve is set to hit 100% at 65C and the 1080Ti never goes higher than 62C in-game.

Been using this fan curve - the the noise isn't very quiet, not that loud either it's tolerable however I used to idle around 45-50 degrees celcius on the default setting, under load it went as far as 84 degrees...

Now with this fan curve I idle around 30-32 which is impressive, haven't tested it under load yet.

For my set up, I'm using 2 NF-A14 PWM as intakes, NF-S12A as an exhaust - an air cooled set up with NF-DH15 as my CPU cooler.

EDIT: One thing I've noticed is that once I try to load the fan curve setting again from X-1 it doesn't load it properly, the fan curves are messed up - the dots are on different locattions.

Your case looks a little tight for space.  Two outflow fans on the top, and an intake in the bottom would help.  But you may not have enough space.  Be sure to check your settings in Precision X1.  Click the Gear at the top right that says SETUP.  Splash screen is up to you, if you want to see the large Precision X1 before it loads or not.  The settings should look like this...

Not sure how that resolves where the correct preset isn't properly loaded.
When I switch from quiet back to custom, the configs are all over the place.

I also believe there is an issue with contact or something with my unit specifically.  I have experienced a few crashes as well.  Not sure if related to the cap issues going around, bad drivers, or what.  It sucks, but I'm pretty over it at this point.  Guess I'll just return it while I can and wait until all of this gets sorted out.

Just wanted to provide an update.  Got rid of the XC3 and was able to get an ASUS TUF.  Temps max out at 65C under load, fans much quieter.  Not sure if I just got a bad card or if EVGA's cooling solution is subpar this generation or both - but it was not my case/fan configuration causing the issue.

How did you trade in your XC3 for ASUS TUF? The TUF boards have better design compared to the EVGA cards, I have to underclock my card to 850v and capped at 1835mhz so it doesn't go above 65 degrees.

The TUF card should run cooler than that, so I'd say you definitely have a fan/airflow issue, but oh well, enjoy the card.

I didn't - I was lucky enough to get it on another drop.  My TUF is around 2000mhz under load.

Are you getting your numbers from open test bench results?  Everything I've seen is low to mid 60's in a case, ex: techpowerup. com/review/asus-geforce-rtx-3080-tuf-gaming-oc/4.html

Regardless, still no excuse for a 20c difference between the TUF and XC3.
