I'd just like verification on this, if I buy an RTX 2070 Super (at MSRP), I can step up to a 3080 FTW3 Ultra because it's on the list of stuff you can Step Up to, correct?

I'm thinking at this point it'd be more worth it to "get in the Step Up queue" than keep hoping I can get one before the bots do.

Oh, I should note, this is from an official retailer, not EBay or anything like that, new directly from said supplier not a 3rd party seller.

If the part number ends in KR you should be good.

Specifically the step up program mentions a new card releasing after you purchase your current card. not wanting to upgrade to a better card that already existed. I'm not sure if it matters, but I would contact customer support to verify before you waste your money.

Additionally, the step up queue is probably not going to be a fast process. You'd probably be better off waiting for new shipments. I think it was Jake that said the process could take anywhere from 1 week to 6 months from queue to card in hand...

FYI I just chatted and confirmed w/ EVGA that 06G-P4-1667-KB (GTX 1660 Ti SC ULTRA GAMING) qualifies for the step up (if purchased new through and authorized seller, in my case, Best Buy.)

Interesting. Their techs are posting otherwise in other posts but maybe it’s case by case. They’re saying KR is new and KB is refurbished/open box. But yeah probably best just to check with them.

You can step up from a 1660 to a 3080?  I mean yeah you're still paying the difference, but that's pretty sweet for a small up front investment.

I'm thinkin' about it, but it's basically back-order, would ship on October 1st, get here between the 4th & the 6th, so I'd be pretty far back in the 3080 or 3090 Step Up queue at that point.

I thought so as well, hence why I called in.  The CS rep put me on hold and confirmed that sku works.  $300 isn't bad at all to hold my place in line!

Well the other reason I'd be getting a different card is so I can go ahead & resell my current GPU (1080 Ti FTW3 Hybrid) before it's used price tanks after the 3070 launches.  And in the mean time, I'd have a 2070 Super which wouldn't be too bad, about the same performance, just not with a CLC on it.

You'll probably get the 3080 much later doing it this way than just waiting for stock to stabilize but tbh everything is just conjecture at this point and I only clicked the thread because of your avatar so what do I know

Yeah, my friend was considering doing that as well to get a 2070 super and then do the step up to a 3080.  Since it would be for his son, he is not in any rush to get the 3080 since his son would not even notice the difference other than a good father getting him the best (for now) eventually.

I think the 2070 Super is one of the better ways to do it, you're putting in ~$600 up front and you only have to pay $209+shipping for the step up to the 3080 FTW3 Ultra after that...

In my case, I'm just thinking about "What if 3080s actually come in stock on a site & I actually get one... after already ordering the 2070 Super."

Would eVGA still let me step up the 2070 Super to a 3080 if I already have a 3080 ordered from them?  How ridiculous would that be if I end up going from no cards to 2... We'll see.  I'm still thinking about it.

I wanted a 2080 Ti to use while waiting for the 3080 but it would be kind of silly to pay more for that than the 3080 costs so I think the 2070 Super or 2080 Supers are the best bet if you're mostly getting it to step up.

If only any site in the US had a 2080 Super in stock, at least I'd have slightly better/the same performance as my 1080 Ti until the 3080 step-up arrives... but alas.
I went ahead & pulled the trigger, ordered a RTX 2070 Super KR-model from Amazon, won't even ship until the October 4th so I can always cancel the order if I get a 3080 between now & then.  It's an FTW3 so should be a nice air-cooled card experience, and allow me to resell my 1080 Ti FTW3 Hybrid before their prices drop even further after the 3070 release.

Just remember if you sell your 1080, you have to send in the EVGA first before they ship the new one.  They want to verify it is the card before you get the new one.

    I know.

I found out that eVGA cards of the 20-series variety are in stock on Newegg, went ahead & ordered a 2070 Super Hybrid from them (since it had a $50 off code, it was cheaper than the 2070 Super FTW3 from Amazon)... and unlike the Amazon order which wouldn't've have shipped for several days yet, the Newegg card will be here Thursday or Friday.

Hopefully that means I'll be able to get in Step Up queue faster, maybe I'll get super lucky & get the Step-Up in & receive the new card before my 1080 Ti sells... doubt it, but I can dream right?
