What exactly does the OC switch on the FTW3 do, just allow you to draw more power to OC or is it an EVGA custom preset overclocking profile?  And if it's just an OC preset, does it modify the fan curve so the fans don't top out at 40% like the 1080Ti's default profile does?

I like that the fans power down when idle but I've never had good luck trying to create my own profiles.

Ok, thanks! I like that kind of OC, just keeping the card cooler.  But will the clocks still drop, and fans still drop to zero when I'm at the desktop and it's running cool?

allows you to keep two bios versions with different power limts/fan curves, etc.

I don't see why not but that all depends in the ambient environment the GPU is in.  It could run the fans to cool off the GPU on idle if it hits a certain threshold.

I believe it used to be that way back in the day.  Now it's only based on factory fan curves.

Faster fan curve. The OC BIOS does not have 0dB fan mode.

Ah damn. That's not gonna work, don't want the fans running 24/7.  All I really want is the fans to do something like go 60% instead of 40% like they do on the EVGA 1080 Ti I have. I don't really want to push the card hard, just keep it from running real hot in games.

Maybe it's time for triple bios! Normal, OC and Cool as a Cucumber!

You could always set the power temp lower so in essence, you're going to down clock the GPU a bit so it doesn't ramp up the fans too high like it does in the higher thermals.  Also setting a fixed fan speed so it stays at 60%.

Another option would be, if it's fan audibles and thermals you're more worried about, I'd look towards the Hybrid Kits in the Oct./Nov timeframe, presuming they're 240mm AIO rads which should allow you to run the fan speeds lower than say a single 120mm rad while getting decent thermals.

Does your warranty get voided if you flash a different bios?

As long as the GPU is sent back in original condition the way it came, the warranty is intact but if something were to go wrong with the flash via bricking the card, it would void the warranty.

Basically all I really want is the same as the default fan curve, but instead of a 40% fan max, a 60% fan max.  I tried messing EVGA Precision and Afterburner fan profiles to try to get that on my 1080Ti but never seemed to quite get the knack for how to set them properly.  I'll probably just keep the 3080 card on normal, and when I game just set the fan to a static 60% if I feel the need.

Since I leave my PC on 24/7 I don't want to use a setting that will keep the clocks up and the fans going when they don't need to be.. I'm not into competitive benchmarking, so the card will still be amazing to me.

How safe is the OC switch given the alleged issues regarding the caps?  Should we be running in the non-OC mode?
