60Hz 4K is max passthrough. You can enable the advanced pass through to allow for higher, but keep in mind this is essentially disabling the device.

    Yikes!  That seems somewhat misleading.

The advertising makes it seem like the 60 Hz passthrough limit is only applicable to 4K, and that 2K and lower resolutions have options for up to 120 Hz.  Who knew that those options cause the device to be disabled and completely useless for the purpose that the product was purchased?  Like, why is that even advertised?  Like, why would you advertise the max capabilities of the device when it is disabled and unable to do anything?  Why not ONLY advertise the max capabilities of the device when it is operational and can be used for the purpose that people buy it?

So, essentially, these are the limits (which are stated but very poorly explained and left open to misunderstanding and misinterpretation):

    Max USABLE options are:
    Passthrough to the monitor: 480p / 576p / 720p / 1080p / 1440p(2K) / 2160p(4K) : ALL @ 60Hz max

Max UNUSABLE (device disabled) and completely-pointless-to-advertise options:
    Passthrough to the monitor: 480p / 576p / 720p / 1080p / 1440p(2K) @ 120 Hz max
Passthrough to the monitor: 2160p(4K) : 60Hz max

You might as well also advertise the 8K and 16K limits when the device is unplugged and sitting in its shipping box.

Dang, I just bought an LG CX with 4k @120 Hz to go with my new (well, if I ever get one) EVGA RTX 3080. I was wanting to snag this new gizmo to go with it, but it kind of sucks that it only goes to 60 Hz. I've never used something like this before, does it limit my TV output to 60 Hz or just the recorded footage?

Passthrough means what your monitor will receive.  In other words, your TV image would be limited to 60 Hz, if you use this device.

Most applications of a capture card like this are using it in mirror mode... I hope you guys are using this in mirror mode, as for consoles, 60fps at this price point is pretty standard. The audio mixing is the cool feature here from what I gather

    I own one, yeah

ah that makes sense, hopefully we can get one for higher refresh rates in the future

It's worth noting to people complaining about it not supporting higher refresh rates on pass through that you'll likely only use pass through for consoles. Most monitors don't support their full resolution/refresh over HDMI due to lack of support on the GPU side. You'll probably have to stick to display port in most cases anyhow, so you'd be using this to capture from a separate output in mirrored mode. You really should just be capturing locally on your pc anyway if you just want to capture your PC gaming sessions, not buying this. This is really for digital camera and console capture primarily, with support and cool chat isolation features to make it worthwhile for PC, but not an ideal solution. You'll notice the examples on the product page only even show using a console or camera as an input with the PC capturing.

That is one of the reasons I still use my Avermedia GC553. I don’t use the passthrough at all and just run my main monitor off the DP and then run an HDMI to the capture card. I was hoping they would have support for 4K/60 or 4k/120hz (HDMI 2.0 limit I believe) capture and not just pass through.
Dont know why they limited the capture resolutions, all the modern capture software does a good job of downscaling and makes it look better when you capture at 4K and then have more detail to downscale it to 1080p in Wirecast.
If they were able to enable the 4K 60 capture, which may not be possible unless going to thunderbolt 3. But at least have 4k 30fps record as others have done over USB3.
I would then look at upgrading from my old GC553, but the features I just mentioned are already available on their new GC555. Albeit its on a faster interface but I would like to have parity with other hardware using the same standard.
