I guess this may be a noobish question but I keep wondering.  Why can't I just order the card I want to buy before it's in stock if I'm OK waiting for it to be in stock, and OK with paying for it ahead of time?  What's with the idea that I have to wait for that magic moment when the card happens to available RIGHT NOW in order to purchase one?  If you're evaluating each purchase so it's not a bot anyway, why not just evaluate the virtual queue of orders you have of people who want to give you money?  What's the logic there?

I've seen posts claiming NV specifically forbade pre-orders, but I don't know if it's true. I would think that since it's been released, that would no longer be in effect, so the best answer is "that's just how they're doing it right now." I imagine back order would reduce some of the purchasing problems, but who knows if they're set up to even managed backorders.

Backorder would be nice, especially for those who aren't in a rush and don't mind waiting. I've wasted a lot of work time checking on my main computer instead of working, haha.

Ok. Let us be realistic for a moment here...

And for the record, I am speaking from the lens of "Been there done that".

    Here is why... https://forums.evga.com/Backordered-until-Thanksgiving-m3100976.aspx

    1. Once the current frustration has been satisfied (Pre-order), next come the "OMG man, it has been two weeks. Are  they starting to fill the backorders yet?"
    2. Then five weeks go by and the "You are losing me as a customer and I am mad as ever" threads breakout.
    3. And the "This is a total scam, they took my money and I have nothing to show for it!" threads. (Even though all it was, was a pre authorization that came off the card a week ort less later)
    4. Then the "Cancelled my order and jumped to another Pre-Order".
    5. Others "I did five pre-orders with other sources and one came in. I might or might not cancel all the others". Even though the "Pre-order" freezes inventory until the retailer confirms your payment or cancellation.
    6. Rinse and repeat.

Bottom line, the only way to solve all of this is for companies to stop doing miniature/insufficient releases. It is better to hold everything back for six weeks, take that heat and build the estimated sales for say the first 90 days and... "Release the hounds!!!"

But then... If they did that... How could they correct the firmware or drivers for the few instead of the "many" feeling they have a bad unit?

    Aaaaaaah the dilemma of consumerism...

That's a totally fair argument, you can't really win either way.

Fair point. It's hard enough dealing with customers. When you have to tell them that what they want isn't possible at the moment, then it's even harder.
