Hi, I preordered the rtx 3080 xc3 Black Gaming and I found out that it hasn't got a backplate, and I am proper pissed off at the moment! The last two generations of Black Editions had their backplates on, but don't know why EVGA decided that removing the one from the GPU will make it more attractive to the buyer because it is 20 quid less than the regular Gaming version. I don't see what is the logic behind that silly move, to sell those cards with no backplates, first off, there is no consistency between the generations, second off, it is ugly and apparently this will be the only model from the 3080 lineup without backplate, I struggle to see any logic in that and I don't want to cancel my order as I will lose my place in the queue. So what should I do now? If EVGA confirms that they will sell separately backplates for this model I would swallow my pride.

The item is clearly shown in the promotional material as not having a backplate. The only person to be mad at, is yourself.

Well, go to the retailers websites and look at their misleading pictures attached to the items description, probably you will find out that the Black Gaming card got backplate on...

Preordered it from scan.co.uk yesterday. The website was nearly down because of the high traffic, but somehow I managed to squeeze in and do the preorder, unfortunately I found out about the missing backplate afterwards...

Yeah, exactly! Totally agree here! What is the logic behind those 3 skews? The GPU costs already 699 MSRP, having a model whith no backplate with the MSRP price and 2 others with backplates on and 20ish pounds price difference between them will not save the buyer from braking the bank. It is year 2020 and the model is RTX 3080, not 3050, or 3060. All other vendors have their 3080's with backplate on for a reason, and guess what, they are not far from the MSRP price too...

If it is a preorder then you can cancel the order and wait until more stock arrives for a different part number that has the backplate.
I will try to call them today and ask them to swap it over with the normal Gaming version. Mate, if I cancel my preorder now there is no way I can get my hands on that GPU as the preorders were so mad yesterday, literally like 1000 buyers buying the same GPU at the same time and that's why scan took off the preorders and you can't preorder anything anymore...

I will strongly reconsider buying anything from EVGA from this day on.
You need to remember that NVIDIA provides all of their partners with the GPUs. If you look over every single major webstore that sells RTX 3080 video cards all of them are out of stock. In my personal opinion Samsung can't produce enough of the GPUs for NVIDIA as of yet. Fabrication yield quality and quantity needs to improve.

I dont blame EVGA for the low stock of GPUs at launch date. I was in the front line when GTX 1080 launched. I know how it was, now is the same. I am pissed because EVGA has the nerve to sell 700$ video card without a backplate. What sort supply shortage would justify the existence of such video card.

Was never quite sure what the point of the backplate was anyway; it's not a thermal solution, is it just for aesthetics? If so, would rather save the £20. First thing I'll be doing in EVGA Precision is turning off any RGB as well...

It protects the PCB and aesthetically it looks better, way better imo
