I don’t think anything can fix the site slowing to a crawl at launch. It’s not something many sites can really handle but I would only buy from a legit seller. Buying a card for a markup that a reseller picked up at launch will only keep to them coming back every launch.

Use an Associates Code & SAVE 5% - 10% on your purchase. Just click on the associates banner to save, or enter the associates code at checkout on your next purchase. If you choose to use my code I want to personally say "Thank You" for using it.

You know what really is annoying though? I'd be fine ordering whatever version card I wanted, even if I knew it was backordered 4-6 weeks. Why on earth has basic commerce been ignored here?

People do this every flippin' day. Find product, see what delivery time is, accept terms, order it. In the rush to get that botter money, they're burning good will hard..
For example:

Me: Hello, I would like to buy one 3090 FTW, and throw in the 10 year warranty.
Store: Hello, it's $1599. The item is popular so it potentially will be on backorder, but you are X position in the list and your place will be confirmed at checkout or will expire within 15 minutes. The item will ship within 2-6 weeks.
Me: Here's my payment info to process my payment. Thank you, I'll be eagerly awaiting it.
Store: Thank you, have a good day.

Fin.

It's not rocket surgery.

Sir... we're gonna need you to unravel... there's no room for rational logic during these times of panic... please rip your shirt off and streak the quad...

Can you imagine the backlash when the 3070s go on sale to this crap? 3070 is the higher end mid range card for a lot of people.. As a former 60 tier user for years.. the 70 is a great deal. We're seeing the backlash from folks that can afford an $800 gpu. If Nvidia lets this happen when 10x more people or more are after a card.. Let's just say TSLA stock is more stable when Elon tweets while smoking on the Joe Rogan Podcast while zooted. People, parents especially, might think it's just better to get that console or the other brand graphics card.

When it does go on sale it won't matter anyway. Same as almost no one (human at least) got a RTX 3080 this morning, barely if any humans will get a RTX 3090 when they go live either. There are way too many bots running crawlers in scripts of these sites that can complete purchases faster than any human ever could.

This problem is easily solved and we can reduce unemployment at the same time!!!

Bring back the US based call centers and you can only order "One CPU per physical address" by "Speaking" to another human.

Blasphemy! I know, I know =]

Re: 3090 Launching Next Week 2020/09/17 20:16:13 (permalink)
I've been trying to get a single Titan RTX card or a pair through my educational program and code NVidia supplied me with since February this year and still haven't been able to... and NVidia killed the educational promotion on that card during the time I waited for them to be in stock. It's super disappointing as I was hoping to get a lot of work and research done on that hardware for school. I'm having to do everything in the cloud, which takes more effort, time, bandwidth and trial and error just to get everything working not mention cost. I'm hoping to get a 3090 just for the sheer 24GB of VRAM that I need to get stuff done.

I really hope those who use these GPU's for entertainment and games realize that others use these cards because they fall within the affordability for students or beginners to get into machine learning without shelling out tons of dough on a more expensive quadro counterpart or rack up expensive cloud compute time. So I'm really hoping people don't buy these cards unless they really need it. There are folks out there like myself who are desperate for an affordable solution to complete our work and research. I really wish NVidia and EVGA had an option to pre-order. I'm looking forward to the 3090 Hybrid or 3090 Hydro Copper because I run ML models overnight and sometimes over the course of several days at 100% GPU utilization. Wish me luck in getting one.

That's one thing I definitely don't miss......endless busy signals when trying to order something. But yeah it would help alleviate the bots buying everything but there is no way EVGA or any retailer is going to hire people just to take orders when in the end all the companies care about is moving their product. They may say they want it going "into the hands of their fans" but the reality of the matter is they simply don't care who buys it, as long as it sells.

As I suggested this in a different post, phone orders will solve the issue. Just do that for 3 days then online. At least that is more fair than this broken system. Rest assured this will not happen though. Companies simply care more about the bottom line and profits then what is fair for consumers.
