I currently have an EVGA GTX 560 gpu, but was thinking about upgrading it. I've read a couple posts where people had good results with the 1050. I'd like other suggestions.

I have 12gb ram, 1000 watt psu, and I'm upgrading from 640gb hdd to 500gb ssd + 2tb hdd. Built this rig 10 years ago, and still going strong!

X58 predates the switch to UEFI... graphics cards now use UEFI as well. You might have trouble getting new GPUs to boot in your X58 system, just in warning. Be sure to update to the latest BIOS version for your board before you try.

The 1650 has replaced the 1050 Ti at the same price point... I'd recommend the 1650 Super as the minimum, but if you intend for it to be a gaming GPU you should look at a higher model.

If its for 1080p gaming, I would stay under xx60 line.  That's assuming the GPUs will work with  your old system.

The only gaming I'm doing is WoW Classic and that's unlikely to change for the foreseeable future. (Working too much to get into heavier gaming)
The GTX 560 actually runs WoW fine, but the card is almost 10 y.o. now and has crashed the computer a few times. So I'm thinking it's worn out and I should replace it.
From reading the linked post above and others I've googled, all I can figure out is that the gtx 1050/1060/1070 cards work for sure on my mobo. As far as anything higher goes, it seems like it's a crapshoot. Some people updated their BIOS and popped in an RTX 2070 card and it just worked. Others went through tons of troubleshooting and never got it working. It's a lot of money to gamble, you know? I'll probably go with the 1050/60/70.

Going with the lower to mid tier 10 series isn't a bad idea either.  Should give you a nice boost in performance from your current GPU.

I had two x58FTW boards with xeon x5660 hexcore CPUs
They both had GTX1080 or 1080Ti GPUs in them, no problem at all.
I see a 1080Ti FE for under 300$ in the for sale section.

If you are not running a hexcore CPU those x58FTW with take a Xeon hexcore no problem.
X5660 or the W3680 are good CPUs. Cheap used on ebay 20$ 5660 -- 50$ for the w3680.
The w3680 is fully unlocked and the X56xx are FSB unlocked
They will run 4ghz or better easy.
Nice upgrade over a dual or quad core CPU.

The 1050 would work pretty well. My parents are using an old system that still is a X58 motherboard and the 1050 worked fine but they don't game on it.
