Hello Guys. I have a weird problem with one of the Intel network adapters. Out of no where , this connection "Ethernet Connection I219-V" disappear from the list. And in computer management, it will show a warning next to it. Problem is when I switch to BIOS 2 or 3 , it works just fine. It happened before and I kept uninstalling / installing , changing cables switching between BIOS 1 to 3 and it worked. Now this problem came back again. I tried switches to BIOS 3 and back to 1 it didn't  work as well. I am using the other connection for now.

Anyone had this weird behavior before ?

Confirm the NIC is On in BIOS

Check MB socket for dust or other object

Check CAT5 wire - replace with known good one

What do you see in Device Manger ?

CMOS Battery could be weak - maybe ?

It is on in BIOS. not sure but if CMOS battery is weak , when I turn off PC completely and discharge it and turn it on again , I should lose my BIOS settings which is not the case.

This is what I see in device manager "
his device cannot start. (Code 10)
    {Operation Failed}
    The requested operation was unsuccessful."

however when I move to BIOS 2, or BIOS 3. it works.

Edit: I remember now. Reflashing BIOS resolved the issue on BIOS 1. But I wonder why this is happening. I just reflashed the BIOS and it started working again .

    CMOS chip issue ?

Short on MB ?  hair, dust, tin whiskers ..............

battery is cheap & usually easy to change

Do the other BIOS positions work without reflashing ?

It is a new build. 2 months old. I blow it regularly.

When this issue happens, and I switch to BIOS 2 or BIOS 3, it works without reflashing. So far when the issue happens, only reflashing resolves it.

If you stay on BIOS 2 or BIOS 3 --> does it happen to fail ?

Do you save BIOS pos #1 to Default settings --> Before flashing ?

Make sure you're using the latest drivers for your nic. If that doesn't solve the issue then it sounds like the hardware may be faulty.

Yes. I tried to reset BIOS 1 while issue persists but that didn't resolve the issue. only reflashing fixes it.  I didn't try to check if the issue will occur on BIOS 2 or 3. but it is something to try if the issue happens again.

I have the latest drivers installed. hardware could be faulty ... but I don't want to go through RMA . because I have to ship it internationally from my own pocket and again pay for it on the way back. If it keeps happening on NIC 1 , I will just forget about it and use NIC 2.

When I first contacted support they suggested to switch to another BIOS . When I asked about the reflashing thing support asked me to try it . And when it worked I thought it was resolved for good. If it happens again , I will switch to another BIOS, if happens again after switching BIOS I will ask for chip replacement . Thanks for the heads up.

Funny you should post that, as I am seeing the same thing on my Z390 Dark at the moment which I have emailed support about.
I have tried my Linux on a USB stick and the adaptor isn't found from looking around on the internet it looks like it goes in to some low power state and its recomend to leave the battery out for a few hours but that was from another forum.
I also have the tpm module doing the same thing with the code 10 error.

So I have just backed my BIOS up to a USB and ill leave the battery out tomorrow to see what it does.

This is very interesting, as I have experienced the same issue.. I haven't updated to the latest bios (1.07) which I will try tonight and see if it comes back.. Will update later today.

Re: Z390 Dark Intel Network Connection 2019/11/04 14:59:26 (permalink)
So I managed to get some trouble shooting done on this yesterday, I have 3 BIOSs loaded on my board 1.07, 1.06 and 0.92 XOC BIOS.

So I have tried the following:

Reset and leave the battery out (BIOS 1.07) - No Luck
Change the BIOS Dip switch 2 to BIOS 1.06 and run a default settings - No Luck
Change the BIOS Dip switch 3 (This is the removeable one) to BIOS 0.92 and run a default settings and it seems it brought my TPM 2.0 and Intel 219v back to life.

So I have then swapped back to my normal BIOS (1.07) with my OC profile applied and it works as expected.

I believe its to do with the ultra low power mode on the Intel 219v, that's causing the problems and changing BIOS's / Resets brings it back to life.

Same issue here on my brand new Z390 Dark. I think it's a BIOS issue, but I'm on the latest one.

Any update on this issue? It's obviously not up to user error at this point, I think.

I had this problem when switch CPU from 9000KS to another 9900KS.
    This helped:

    - load default bios
    - update bios from 1.07 to 1.07
    - bios shows information about new CPU microcode and RAM, load default bios

I went ahead and made a backup of my BIOS settings, reflashed my BIOS through Windows, and then restored my BIOS settings and it works again.

This happened to me on my new z390 dark MOBO too so I wanted to post here. Bios 1.07. Out of nowhere I got a missing Ethernet controller in device manager. Searched and found this thread. Confirmed it was enabled in BIOS, reinstalled drivers, even reinstalled Win 10 and used all updated drivers from EVGA download link. Still missing Ethernet controller...... Last step was flashing or (re)flashing BIOS to 1.07 (again). Still didn’t work though.

Only thing that worked was switching to the other BIOS. Oddly enough BIOS 2 (also 1.07) wouldn’t take my USB saved settings from BIOS 1 so I had to manually enter. As a final step to test I switched back to BIOS 1 and it was also working again which confuses me. How can flicking a dip switch make the Intel NIC appear again and make Windows happy both BIOS 1 & 2? Makes no sense unless there is some other issue with BIOS. This happen to anyone else? Don’t want to RMA could end up with worse problems :)

What I did to fix this issue was save my settings, reflash the BIOS, then reapply the settings.

Is this a glaring issue where my internet will not work and I should return the board?

Can I use the Intel i219AT NIC to get around this problem from the get go. Is it safe to use that Nic or is that there for another use and not for internet

I remember mine happening when I was on wireless. Nothing wrong with board just the current bios needs some polish.

Here's hoping that EVGA comes up with a fix at some point in my lifetime (this is supposed to be the last computer I ever build).
