I know this board doesn’t like politics so I’m going going to keep this strictly tech related:

Current events involving America and a large Asian country is going to have a huge, real and immediate impact on tech product availability and prices. The stuff we all love.

I hold forth no opinion as to “right” or “wrong”. But the way things are going - buy your gear now. The world is far more intertwined than you may think.

It’s gonna get ugly.

Meh.  I'd like to build a new Z490 system, but it's not exactly a high priority.  Right now I have two systems, an 8700K in a Z370FTW and a 9900KS in a Z390 Dark.  I just bought another (refurbed) 1080Ti FE for distributed computing, as BOINC doesn't play nice with mixed cards, and I have a couple of 1650 Supers that I bought for ... I'm not exactly sure why (although price to performance they are pretty good, at least on the project they are running right now).  The only thing I might be interested in is an Ampere card (or 2), but given the numbers I have seen, I would get almost exactly the same compute performance from a 3080Ti (or whatever they are going to call it) as I do from a pair of 1080Tis, and since I don't play any games (that cant run on a 286...), and I don't know of any projects that can make use of Tensor cores, it doesn't make much sense to run out and drop better than a thousand dollars on compute I already have (unless I get around to building a tenth gen system).

Lucky for me, I don't feel the impulsive need to upgrade my computer every year.  GTX 1080 and 3770k is still going strong for my purposes.  Wake me up when its about my mortgage, stocks, or precious metals.

Only thing I'll consider is another SSD or a much bigger one. Although, intrigued by the new Ryzens.

Lol. It’s only hysterics if it doesn’t happen.

Of, the opposite could happen as well and we get price collapse. Which might be even “worse”

well, if video cards are hard to find, maybe my used ones will appreciate in value and I can sell them.  Wait for hardware prices to fall back down and then buy new.

A lot of the inflation comes from people working at home and finding having a desktop a lot better. Laptops are great for mobility but I know people who have already been told they will be working from home until 2021. When you know you are not going to be going to an office trying to use a 15" laptop really doesn't work well when you are used to having three screens in the office. My girlfriend was able to get a second monitor from her work and I am sure a lot of other people are upgrading to desktops and multiple monitor setups as well.

I'm just little better then you. Mine X99-GTX1080Ti is still OK for gaming.
Nothing could force me to buy DDR4 before DDR5 show up. Nothing.
Even if I need to buy one component on 3-4 months later.
I plan only to change processors, memory and motherboard, off course new CPU Block/radiator and pump. But mine parts will cover all cooling and memory.
    After that I wait Gen 5.0 M.2 if DDR5 platform support and PCI-E 5.0.

Graphic card I will not change because for mine old timer monitor GTX1080Ti is enough.
I thought a lot how to find and money for monitor, some good monitor, but I still didn't figure out.

Maybe price of hardware will stay same... I never saw such discounts for branded wardrobe as now because Covid-19. I spent 2500 euro on cloth and I saved more then 1500.
REPLAY, DIESEL, NAPAPIJRI mostly,.. I love Italian brands. Little LEVI'S and few NIKE things for house. Only thing I didn't bought I planned are Danner boots/shoes, 6".
Because it's not available in mine region. I'm desperate for nice Danner boots from Made in USA section Waterproof/Gore-Tex/Non Insulated as Patrol or Explorer or Danner Ridge, Danner Light... something like that.

The US Trade Representative on Friday granted a reprieve to the increased tariffs being levied at China-imported electronic goods. The exemption, valid for one year until 20th August 2020, includes some products that will be welcome to PC hardware enthusiasts, including motherboards, graphics cards, desktop cases, "mouse input devices" valued over $70, "trackpad input units" valued at over $100, and power supply units that output more than 500 W.

    Was that exemption extended yet?
