I am running into some problems related to virtualization with my X299 Dark (latest bios).

I need to set up a virtual machine (WSL2), but it refused to work for me and after some research I found out that Windows is telling me that my bios doesn't support virtualization. Doing a systeminfo.exe return this line "Virtualization Enabled In Firmware: No". Both virtualization CPU options are enabled (Virtualization and VT-D).

I normally run Linux on this board and I have been working with virtual machine a lot, including PCI pass through via VFIO/IOMMU and it has been working great, so virtualization isn't an issue with this board on Linux, so why does Windows tell me it isn't enabled?

Windows has been freshly installed on a separate drive, so it's not a configuration issue as it was just installed. I also tried to get a newer version by joining the Insider Program, still running into the issue telling me the bios has disabled virtualization.

Does anyone here run virtual machines under Windows with this board?

Could anyone please take a look at this? Thanks!

My result is different, my system info reports Hyper-V Virtualization Enabled In Firmware: Yes.

Running i9-10900X on X299 Dark with beta branch of 1.23 firmware, Win10 Pro for Workstations 1909 build 10.0. 18363 with most recent patches.

    Hi,

You can try to disable Windows Hyper-V, if your not using it.  It may interfere with the firmware setting.

Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features on or off > Hyper-V

Thanks Peter, but I have tried that already. It actually wasn't enabled the first time I ran into that issue, I then enabled it to see if it might fix it, but it didn't and removed it again. Also unchecked and rebooted all the WSL related features, Linux Subsystem, Virtual Machine, I spent a few hours on this and I have no clue what else I could try.

My CPU is a 7920x, but I highly doubt the cpu is at fault here. Running the latest 2004 build of Windows Pro, well at first it was 2004 (didn't work with a fresh 2004), then it become something else when I joined the beta Insider Program (still didn't work).

Zoran, I didn't know there is a public beta branch of the firmware, where can we get this?

Don't let firmware branch I am running confuse you, it is completely irrelevant to your issue. Only thing this branch does is show info for more than four NVMe drives at the time, other than that it is same as 1.23.

If I were you I would first rule out is it 2004 misbehaving on you.

How do you intend to manage your VMs? I'd look to VMWare Workstation Pro 15/16, FWIW.

I had the same problem after flashing bios 1.23 on my X299 Dark, so I went back to 1.21, set defaults, let windows load, then I flashed 1.23 again and it solved the issue.  Worth a try, hope it helps.
