Re: EVGA DARK LAGUNA 2019/09/11 01:48:55 (permalink)
This is unique project. I never saw something similar.
One of best RIGs I ever saw.

Pure win. Manufacturers of waterblocks didn't had interest to build Monoblock for EVGA X299 Dark and I can bet EVGA sold very similar number of boards compare to Rampage VI Extreme. But that didn't stop him to build own block.
I can bet ASUS have influence on EKWB and they are priority. They know very well that one percent of enthusiasts will choose rather high end motherboard with available Monoblock then high end motherboard where only could be used CPU Block.

But CPU block is in advantage and better cool CPU. VRM could resist 85C years without problems.
Only if you want to drain last percent of power from CPU and use last stable clock active VRM cooling is better.
People who want normal overclock no need to use VRM block.
OK X299 is little different, heat is higher then average but and EVGA X299 VRM Heatsink is not normal.

In my case EKWB done so bad decision with Monoblock and connected PCH part to CPU and VRM but didn't made water channels.
And now heat from PCH influence on CPU and VRM temps spread on block but liquid not reach PCH.
How they done such stupid idea after they build previous Monoblock with active cooling on PCH I don't know.
Only I could understand that they want to fool people who used on previous Monoblock and didn't see inside RGB version.
In future only CPU Block, except if someone build some nice block like this for my motherboard or Watercool build in Germany Monoblock. Lucky for me Monoblock costed me 1/3 of original price. I would be very angry to pay real price, higher for Monoblocks with 2 active cooling spots then previous Monoblock for same board with 3 active cooling spots. At least on new motherboard PCH part is not connected to upper and heat can't spread... Because of that I expect at least 7-8C temps drop if I switch to Heatkiller IV PRO Black Copper and universal VRM block.
But they don't do that. They need a lot of time for testing, and launch parts when they checked everything and when they are sure that customers will be satisfied.

 Summary

Summing up the whole construction of the monoblock, once a prototype turned out to be a good investment but profitable in quality and gave a lot of taste to the appearance. The whole is estimated at PLN 1500 (384$), the main motif made of copper and nickel plexiglass cost around PLN 1110 (283$), prototype PLN 400 (103$) plus minus 2 additional covers for the prototype. Time is such a mod for me to take almost 3 months time from start to finish. I'm working on better photos because something so wonderful deserves good quality photos.

Vlad I am very happy that you have licensed my contribution to work and described what is happening on the PC market so well.
Thank you.

Nothing, absolutely nothing on market can't compare with look of EVGA X299 Dark with this Monoblock.
Modification is probably possible to cover Monoblock to look more similar to shield on board.
But even know is best.

No such shine RGB Effect capable to compete to this.
This is real beauty of hardware, not distract attention with RGB to save cost on other parts.
This board is recognizable from 20m. Others you need to look logo and names on them with sunglasses.

This picture simply look unreal... I would not surprise to someone send me in future 10 years to see this...
Even i9-9800X and 4x4GB is enough, just to work system and watercooling.

Ok,time to stage 2 Michael...waiting for you to take care of it :)
Removing all plastic covers.

Black satin aluminum heat sinks ... both NVME plus chipset (mini fan is annoying).

In addition, aluminum satin black I / O port cover.
Similar to the I / O port cover I did for the X299 APEX.

If someone can't find EVGA Dark Monoblock new Heatkiller IV Pro will fit nice as well.
Default VRM Cooler will resist OC Challenge.

Watercooling paradise, no RGB.
I mean this is B option for guys who don't have Laguna Monoblock.

I would never invest in Rampage motherboard with so goog EVGA available.
But with X99 generation Rampage V Extreme and E10 version offer more then X99 Classified.
Except fact that X99 Classified is improvement compare to previous EVGA Motherboard.
But they should give to K|NGP|N to build motherboard like graphic cards and than it's very hard to compete with EVGA.

It is not possible.
Only one such monoblock was created .... full custom, extremely expensive to make ... is a specific version dedicated only to the CPU in the changed / low version of IHS ... delided.

Measurements, execution on CNC, black nickel (it was very difficult to find a company that will perform black nickel plating) ... the work time for this project is tens of hours.

Unique, one and only.
Imatya doesn't want to sell it :)

But ... after migrating to the 3-gen SKL-X CPU, he changed motherboard to Asus X299 Apex, so maybe he will sell Dark + custom monoblock ... in the future :)
