Mic input needs gain reduction

I've had the Nu Audio card since it launched and have been using ATH-AG1X's and the microphone is prone to clipping when I normally speak.
 
I came from an Creative Sound Blaster Z where the sensitivity was fine and I could transmit the microphone under windows and the card at 100% volume now I have to transmit at 50% to just keep the any peaking I create from bothering anyone I'm talking to. In terms of the GUI we have for the card, I need a negative level of "Mic Boost". The volume ring is not the same as gain. That is just the maximum output volume.
 
I find it hard to believe that the headset I'm using is at fault as it's on the "Certified" list and I've actually used two pairs of the same device since purchasing this card.

    You could turn the microphone level down below 100%.  Is the functionality of that slider for some other purpose?  Wouldn't turning that slider down below 100% be the "gain reduction" you are looking for?  What other gain reduction is needed?  Do you want two sliders?  One which you can keep at 100% and the other which you set at 50%?  Is that not the same as just setting one slider to 50%?  50% of 100% is 50%.  Just set the one slider -- already available to you -- to 50%, and then you will not need a second slider to be set to 50%.
     
    Is there some other complication which I am failing to see?

    So the gain reduction I'm looking for would be sensitivity rather than volume of the sent signal.
