Hello,
I was given this motherboard as compensation from ASUS because they couldn't assist me with my X48 model. It took me !FoReVer! to hunt down the proper components (CPU & RAM) to be able to properly test its functionality. It's well beyond any Statute-of-Limitations, now.(*) I presume it was a refurbished model they'd sent me -- but in any case...
It has a boot-issue.
I've tried my darndest researching the matter, and can't deduce how to go about it. Is it just that they (ASUS) sent me a bad board?
When I boot,
It takes ~10-Sec's~ to boot. Then, it takes a couple seconds to initialize the GPU, meaning I don't get to see POST. However, once the image loads; it stays hung on the "ROG" Screen. After multiple-reboot efforts (sometimes just once), I can get into BIOS and load operating system.
*I have yet to stress test it, any ... but, it will randomly (very randomly) crash, at times.
These two factors are the only concern with the build.
For some bizarre reason, I have to boot+reboot+reboot to load/boot.

Did you try and update the bios since you can get into the bios?

Also, how long ago did you buy that X48? How long is their warranty on it? It seems like the X48 was a very long time ago.

I virtually have done nothing except assemble and install the O.S. (W10-x64) -- and configure the RAM to 1866MHz...
I'd hoped flashing the BIOS doesn't become necessary ...
    BIOS Vers. - 1401
    ...
As far as why it (not-frequent) randomly crashes... I don't know ... but as for the boot concern; I can't figure out for the life of me how to go about it. It's very inconveniencingly-frustrating having to multiple-reboot attempts to load to O.S.
    ...
    Bad RAM maybe?

    -

It's been sometime since the case was initially disputed; probably since back in ~2015~ from when they'd swapped it to the X58. I've only been (finally) utilizing the 6-Core CPU (+III-MoBo) for a short duration ... as it has had performance issue(*),, I'd didn't want to potentially damage anything. >.< (but now could care less--I just want it to function properly)*

    *EDIT*
    *Also,
    It took a minute, but I "Bench-Tested" it with solely 1×RAM Module [+GPU /etc. (Exclusive-Necessities Only)] at a time... across all 6×Modules.
    6 for 6 had the boot-hiccup.

Yeah, do a Memtest with just one stick in. See if it fails. Swap in new ones as they pass.

I was going to suggest dropping the memory to three sticks, total of six GB for a test. Place in appropriate slots.

    2009 Alienware Aurora x58
    i7 990x oc to 4.14
    Three ASUS ROG PG278Q Black 27" WQHD 2560 x 1440 - 144 Hz 1ms (GTG) NVIDIA G-Sync Gaming Monitors
RTX 2080ti EVGA Black XC oc 1250/160 with 456.55
    CORSAIR Vengeance 24GB (6 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 memory
    2TB 860evo SSD
Corsair Hydro Series H80i V2 Water/Liquid CPU Cooler
Two 120mm push/pull NF-F12 iPPC-3000 PWM Fan with Focused Flow

I cant remember exactly but the amount of Ram at that speed was limited with the x58. I think you are ok with 12GB however.

You will need to enable XMP and a few other things in BIOS. This info is what works well with my x58 / 990x.

Also when you get it up and running be sure to disable the Spectre and Meltdown protections using this site's software. You can re-enable the protections at any time. but with the protections on the 990x will underperform considerably during gaming.

    * Six memory slots (2/1,4/3,6/5)
    * Matched memory modules are installed in DIMM connectors 1/3/5 or 1-6
    * To run in Tri-Channel mode (3 lanes), memory must be installed in multiples of 3
    * Maximum memory 24GB (1067MHz and 1333MHz) or 12GB (1600MHz XMP)
    * For PC3-12800 and PC3-15000 XMP memory, go into the Bios and turn on XMP. Go into the Overvoltage Config and set QPI and Uncore voltage to +200mv. Leave everything else on Auto

I was suggesting a bios update because it’s the first thing I would do if I suspected a motherboard issue. It’s a pretty easy and painless thing to rule out, or potentially fix, the issue.

Absolutely update the BIOS to Version 1502 if needed..Using USB BIOS Flashback is the best/safest method..All you need is standby power to the mobo (PSU on)..Can't mess it up..Refer to your mobo manual for instructions..You will need to rename the BIOS RampageIII-Extreme-ASUS-1502.ROM file to R3E.ROM to flash it that way.

    Roll from there.
