NVIDIA's next-generation GeForce "Ampere" RTX 3000 series graphics cards are heading for a September reveal, along with availability shortly after. Much of the news cycle over the past couple of weeks revolved around alleged leaks of the card's cooling solution that provides insights into what the finished product could look like, with some even doubting the veracity of the picture leaks given the September launch. Igor's Lab did some digging into the production timeline of these cards. The leaks seem to perfectly align with the timeline.

The chip design, prototyping, taping-out, and testing of "Ampere" IP completed before the mass-production timeline kicks off. This begins in April/May, with NVIDIA's OEM partners and other suppliers finalizing a bill of materials (BOM). June is also when the products go through the EVT (engineering validation test) and DVT (design validation test). It is at these stages that NVIDIA has the opportunity to approve or summarily reject/change the design of the product and finalize it. By July, there are working samples of the finished products for NVIDIA and its industry partners to validate. This is also when regulators such as the FCC and CE conduct EMI tests. Production validation tests (PVT), or proofing of the production line, occurs in late-July/early-August. The final BIOS is released to the OEM by NVIDIA around this time. Mass-production finally commences in August, and the onward march to distributors rolls on. The media event announcing the product and press reviews follow in September, and market availability shortly thereafter.

This information is rumor but personally I believe the timeline is pretty much correct if a September release is still on target.

I believe NVIDIA still has a lot of testing to do yet. I'm sure with Cyberpunk coming in September that is also another reason they want to be on time. I am also curious about AMD's offering at that same time frame.

If the 3080/3090 are as complex as rumors make them out to be (twin fans, extremely unusual PCBs, co-processors, etc) then NVIDIA will most definitely not be rushing anything with this launch.

Ohhhhh September would be nice, although I'll be holding out for a Ti version. Already have some $ put aside for it.

Really wondering what this 3090 model is (if it exists), a new naming convention for Titans? - that's my theory for now.

If this series really has chips on both sides of the pcb, it's going to be quite a challenge for water cooling fabrication ...and expensive too I imagine.

Yep. That is what people are saying. It's the only card that comes with nvlink too.

If the NVlink is only on the 3090 and it's more of a titan then it will be the end of SLI. I am kind of expecting that we will see a September launch but it might be a soft launch with products coming to market a few weeks later.

Cyberpunk 2077 just go delayed to November 19, so at least that's not the same factor it was before.

Agreed, i feel like i have not gotten my moneys worth out of SLi'd 2080 ti's, probably will buy the titan variant or whatever is the fastest this gen and stick with a single card too.

Full core in 3080 ti. :O

So the 3090 is going to only offer 24gb of vram at 1tb/s vs the 12gb and 863gb/s on the 3080 ti.

Its obvious look at the screen size of 4k and 8k alone😼, 11gb wont cut it if you add the precious so called new features😹.
And that co-processor you know that can be added.to the board as well not just the gpu pcb🙄.
Heck i called it when RTX cards.came out about.having a.dedicated processor just for RT and look at.me.now😺.
    Taking my ideas and.i get.nada 😤 kitty is sad😿

I am expecting VRAM in the ballpark of 16 GB to match the consoles

Its obvious look at the screen size of 4k and 8k alone😼, 11gb wont cut it if you add the precious so called new features😹.
And that co-processor you know that can be added.to the board as well not just the gpu pcb🙄.
Heck i called it when RTX cards.came out about.having a.dedicated processor just for RT and look at.me.now😺.
    Taking my ideas and.i get.nada 😤 kitty is sad😿

My best cards are 8GB class at the moment. Speculation is a waste of time until somebody puts it up for sale on NewEgg etc

Really wondering what this 3090 model is (if it exists), a new naming convention for Titans? - that's my theory for now.

Yep. That is what people are saying. It's the only card that comes with nvlink too.

If the NVlink is only on the 3090 and it's more of a titan then it will be the end of SLI. I am kind of expecting that we will see a September launch but it might be a soft launch with products coming to market a few weeks later.

Fine with me I'm going single card from here on out.

    Diddo!

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

I so hope that screenshot is true. A full-fat core with nothing disabled... proper 3080 Ti and none of that 3090 silliness.

It's like trying to determine a legit UFO sighting, we should be skeptical when rumors of something far in advance get clear pictures, for all we know nVidia is trying to find a leak to plug by feeding false info.  I'm all for hoping for the best provided you plan for the worst, but some of you just aren't doing that.
