Hi there,
I bought the EVGA NU Audio card to improve the sound from my HTPC standard onboard sound. My speakers are the DEVIALET Phantom Gold (192/24) connected over Toslink to the souncard. The HTPC is my Plex server and Roon end point as well running Win10 Server Ed.

Problem#1 - I'm trying to setup the SPDIF playback quality in Win10 to 192/24, but when I do that or any other thing different from the "basic" 44,1/16 at first plays whatever I through at it, but then it goes silent...in my Devialet APP it says "no cable detected" and I can't have sound until I reboot the PC. This problem never happened with the ASUS motherboard sound chip, it would play everything at whatever sample rate also on SPDIF....can someone help me understand what might be happening?

Problem#2 - I'm trying to play my Chromecast Audio through the Line-In of the card(also tried the MIC, same result), but nothing, no sound, no nothing...this also used to be straight forward with the on-board sound chip... :-(

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

I am not sure why you bought this sound card to use SPDIF output when you already had SPDIF output provided by your motherboard's onboard sound chip. SPDIF is digital and there is not going to be any difference.

That doesn't really answer my question(s)... regarding your comments...next you will say something around the lines...."....because digital sound is 0s and 1s....all sounds the same..."....bla, bla....this is not website for this discussion....

    Well, it's true.

The digital bit stream is identical. To make matters worse, the source of the bit stream is your CPU, either way, and since changing your sound card didn't change your CPU, it is actually identical; not just figuratively. The sound card is doing nothing to affect it. The expensive stuff on the card which you paid for is the analog stuff which you aren't using.

That's what digital pass-through means. It means that it is passing through. The digital encoded audio signal comes from your CPU, is fed to the sound card or onboard sound card via PCI-E lanes, and then the sound card or onboard sound card passes that digital signal through to the SPDIF Toslink port. They do not decode the encoded signal, modify it, and re-encode the audio signal; they do nothing to it ... they pass it through. The digital audio signal is encoded and certain to be bit-perfect; any errors are detectable by built-in error detection and corrected. The digital audio is guaranteed to be identical out of this sound card versus your onboard sound card. Any change that the sound card made to the digital audio bit stream would be detected as an error -- because the bit stream is not being decoded and re-encoded to account for that change -- and would be corrected; therefore, guaranteed to be identical.

Answer your question? I don't know the answer. EVGA's drivers and software are notoriously buggy. It should work, but it isn't working.

This is all I can say: Good luck and I am sorry that you are facing this frustration for absolutely no reason. If you do start using the analog outputs on the sound card, I expect you to hear a noticeable improvement compared to your onboard sound card's analog output. But since you weren't using your onboard sound card's analog output, maybe you won't appreciate this sound card's analog output either.

What is problem you are having it does not show option to support higher bit rates?  If you are playing 16 bit 44.1khz sample rate media that is what will be shown, it does not upsample anything to higher bit rate or sample frequency since that would be pointless.  I never tested the optical on it but usually for optical you need to set it in the windows control panel.

Hi there, it shows all the options, but if I use anything above 16/44 it "breaks" there's no sound...my speakers support 192/24...this problem never happened before only with this sound card....

Is there anyone from EVGA official support in this forum?

It's hit and miss.  Not guaranteed.  This is a user-to-user forum.  You should not expect EVGA representation here; even the moderators are volunteers and not officially affiliated with EVGA.

To focus on your issues, is it correct to assume you tried using the Nu Audio control panel to control the SPDIF and Line-In functions, or are you using the Windows-based controls? Plus, trying different cables?
Sometimes I miss obvious things like muted sources, etc. Have you checked all that? :)

Lastly, check out the NU Audio support page at: https://www.evga.com/Support/AudioCard/. It has some more things to check and EVGA Customer Support contact info. if you need further help.
    Good luck! :)

    Hi there,
Many thanks appreciate the support @BizSAR, the things I already tried where, delete all the sw/drivers, etc, and start again, I'm trying only use the NU Audio Control to change settings, etc....but I still didn't try a different cable, since the one I'm using today is the same that was working in my previous setup so....but is something definitely on my list as soon I can get my hands on a new cable...

It has been a bit confusing, just because when I first installed the Sound card, all seem to be work perfectly and then start failing bit-by-bit... :-)

Meantime, I will have a look at the link you sent...again, appreciate the constructive support/feedback.

    Cheers.
